Overview
A growing engineering and technology organization supporting the nuclear industry is seeking an experienced Director of Quality to lead its Quality, Environmental, Safety, and Health (ESH&Q) function. This role will play a critical part in ensuring compliance with nuclear quality standards while supporting complex engineering, fabrication, and delivery activities in hazardous environments.
The successful candidate will lead a team of quality professionals, act as a senior quality representative to leadership and customers, and drive the development and implementation of robust quality and safety programs aligned with industry and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities- Lead and develop a team of Quality and QC professionals supporting engineering, fabrication, and delivery activities
- Own and maintain an integrated Quality Management System aligned with ISO 9001:2015, NQA-1, ASME Section III & VIII
, and applicable OSHA requirements - Serve as Management Representative for the Quality Management System, ensuring processes are established, maintained, and continuously improved
- Partner closely with Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Licensing, and Operations teams to ensure quality requirements are embedded across all activities
- Support project planning, proposal development, and cost estimates from a quality and ESH&Q perspective
- Participate in industry and regulator-led quality and nuclear assurance activities
- Lead internal audits and external supplier audits in accordance with internal audit and supplier evaluation programs
- Investigate non-conformances, lead corrective action initiatives, and support continuous improvement
- Provide quality and ESH&Q support directly to customers as required
- Maintain regulatory documentation including OSHA logs and planned HSE activities
- Attend production, pre-manufacturing, and project review meetings
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science, or equivalent experience (e.g., Senior Reactor Operator License or Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience implementing and managing QA programs within regulated industries
- Minimum 3 years’ experience applying NQA-1 and associated nuclear codes and standards
- Strong working knowledge of ISO 9001, NQA-1, ASME codes, NRC QA requirements, and commercial nuclear quality standards
- Experience with commercial grade dedication
- Familiarity with weld inspection, dimensional inspection, and mechanical inspection methods
- NQA-1 Lead Auditor certification preferred
- Willingness to travel to vendor and supplier facilities as required
- Combination of office-based and fabrication/shop-floor environments
- Exposure to industrial fabrication processes including welding and heavy machinery
- Strict adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment required
- Compressed work schedule available (e.g., 9/80 schedule with alternating Fridays off)
