Position OverviewThe MEP Specialist supports the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection scopes on large commercial projects, including distribution centers, advanced manufacturing facilities, and data centers. This role provides technical expertise, field oversight, and coordination support to ensure MEP systems are installed safely, correctly, and in alignment with design requirements and project schedules.
The MEP Specialist acts as a key liaison between subcontractors, project engineers, project management, and the field team—helping ensure high‑performing, reliable systems essential to warehouse and mission‑critical environments.
Key Responsibilities Technical Support & Field Coordination- Assist with coordination of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection subcontractors.
- Monitor installation progress and verify work meets project drawings, specifications, and code requirements.
- Support the sequencing and integration of critical systems such as HVAC equipment, electrical distribution, generators, UPS systems, low voltage, and chilled water systems (data center focus).
- Review technical submittals, shop drawings, and BIM‑coordinated models to identify and resolve field issues.
- Contribute to development of MEP look‑ahead schedules and daily planning with the field team.
- Help track procurement, material delivery timelines, and long‑lead equipment needs.
- Provide input into workflow sequencing to support overall schedule goals.
- Conduct quality inspections and field checks to ensure compliance with project standards.
- Assist with start‑up, testing, commissioning activities, and integrated systems testing.
- Support preparation of turnover documentation, as‑built reviews, and O&M closeout materials.
- Promote and reinforce safety policies specific to MEP activities, including lockout/tagout and energized‑work protocols.
- Help identify hazards and verify subcontractors follow safe work practices.
- Maintain updated field logs, daily progress reporting, and issue tracking.
- Assist in managing RFIs, change documentation, equipment logs, and coordination meeting notes.
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for field questions related to MEP scopes.
- 4–7 years of experience supporting MEP work on commercial, industrial, or mission‑critical construction projects.
- Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Experience with large warehouses, logistics centers, industrial facilities, or data center construction.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, diagrams, submittals, and technical specifications.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Familiarity with Procore, Bluebeam, BIM 360, or similar software.
- Understanding of NEC, NFPA, and Tier III/Tier IV guidelines for data centers.
- Background as a skilled MEP tradesperson or engineering technician a plus.
