Mechanical Engineer Sr

Job Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer with strong expertise supporting AI&T of complex systems. This engineer should have demonstrated experience with Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and Design for Affordability initiatives. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives at the intersection of hands‑on integration, detailed mechanical design, and optimizing hardware for producibility, cost, and reliability.

The ideal candidate combines CREO CAD proficiency, deep understanding of mechanical assembly practices, and the ability to work closely with manufacturing, quality, and production teams to deliver robust, cost‑effective designs that scale efficiently into production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop mechanical designs, models, and drawings for components and assemblies within a complex missile or weapon system.
  • Review existing designs and apply DFM/DFA and affordability principles to ensure designs are optimized for high‑rate, repeatable, and cost‑effective production.
  • Collaborate closely with manufacturing, assembly, integration, and test teams to resolve build issues and improve hardware producibility.
  • Support hardware builds on the production floor, troubleshoot assembly challenges, and implement design improvements.
  • Conduct tolerance analyses, material selection, and trade studies to ensure design robustness and manufacturability.
  • Revise and release mechanical designs, models, and drawings for components and assemblies within a complex missile or weapon system.
  • Incorporate lessons learned, production feedback, and quality findings into iterative design improvements.
  • Assist in generating cost estimates, affordability assessments, and producibility risk analyses.
  • Participate in engineering change processes and support MRB/FRB activities as required.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in mechanical design and assembly processes.
Desired skills
  • Experience designing components for missiles, aerospace systems, or other complex defense hardware.
  • Working knowledge of DFM/DFA principles and best practices.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and produce detailed engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Experience supporting Assembly and Integration of missiles, aerospace systems, or other complex defense hardware.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes of lower level assemblies such as machining, casting, composites, additive, and precision assembly.
  • Lean or Six Sigma training or project experience.
  • Experience supporting MRB/FRB, identifying root cause of issues, and implementing solutions to address corrective actions.
  • Knowledge of producibility assessments, cost modeling, or affordability trade studies.
  • Active DoD Security Clearance.
