Position: Software Architect - Secret Clearance Required with Security Clearance

Overview

Security Clearance:
Active Secret clearance required (Interim ok). Travel Requirement:
Up to 10%. Citizenship: US Citizenship required. Sherpa 6 is seeking a talented Software Architect to join our team and play a crucial role in designing solutions and guiding the development teams. We build mission‑critical systems for the Department of Defense (DoD) and other commercial customers. In this role, you will work with the software developers and product owners to establish a plan for executing a project.

You will take project documentation (BoEs, White Papers, WBSs) and convert that into a plan for the development team. You will work to align the architecture plan with existing patterns and practices to follow the established software development process. You will create plans and diagrams with enough level of detail that the development team can write code accordingly.

Responsibilities
  • Design and oversee the architecture of complex software systems, ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
  • Design diagrams for communicating sequence flows and component interactions.
  • Interpret project requirements and use them to create architecture plans.
  • Provide architecting support across multiple scrum teams and projects as needed.
  • Work closely with the development team to ensure the work aligns with the architecture plans.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to drive innovation.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering and architecting.
  • Experience generating software planning diagrams for communication purposes (e.g., sequence diagrams).
  • Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
Qualities of Exceptional Candidates
  • Extensive experience working with multiple teams concurrently to provide architecture guidance and planning support from handoff from project manager to development team.
  • Familiarity with RESTful API development, Single Page Application (SPA) development, and Mobile management development, for planning purposes.
  • Familiarity with security best practices (e.g., OWASP, encryption standards, CSfC, FIPS 140‑2, FIPS 140‑3, RSA, Passkeys).

Salary

Salary Range: $135,000 – $175,000.
