Overview
Lockheed Martin Space is accelerating NASA’s Artemis program, building on the success of Artemis II and fast‑tracking Artemis III V to establish a sustainable human presence on the Moon. A talented HW/SW integrator is needed to serve as lead for Orion’s lidar payloads within the Reusable Proximity Operations Demonstration Unit (RPODU). The role directly supports upcoming Artemis missions by ensuring the lidar system is flight‑ready and fully validated for lunar descent and surface operations.
Responsibilities- Lead the complete hardware‑software integration of lidar sensors that enable precise navigation, hazard avoidance, and autonomous docking during lunar proximity operations.
- Design, plan, and execute integrated testing campaigns in hardware‑in‑the‑loop and software‑in‑the‑loop laboratory environments.
- Develop test procedures, run full‑scale simulations of RPODU activities, capture and analyze sensor data, and apply automated and machine‑learning techniques to identify performance issues quickly.
- Troubleshoot complex hardware and software interactions, generate clear documentation, and communicate findings to Orion avionics, flight software, and mission planning teams.
- Drive continuous improvement of integration processes and test infrastructure and maintain alignment with project schedule.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or closely related technical field with 2 years of software engineering/development experience or a Master’s degree.
- Experience testing integrated hardware and software in a lab or simulated environment.
- Experience with lidar systems integration and test.
- Test case, procedure development, and execution experience.
- Experience with software integration and debugging techniques.
- Linux/Unix experience.
- Experience with Software Configuration Management tools (Perforce, Git, or equivalent).
- Experience with Python or a similar scripting language.
- Green Hills Integrity/Embedded programming.
- VxWorks programming experience.
- Experience with L2 and L3 network protocols, development, configuration, and hardware‑software integration.
- Familiarity with Object Oriented Software Design.
- Proficiency with C/C++.
- Experience or desire to learn spacecraft avionics design and development, C/DH, GN&C, COMM and instrumentation, propulsion, electrical power systems, automated mission sequencing, and fault management.
- General Orion experience or knowledge.
- Demonstrated interest and ability to learn new tools and technologies and leverage those to successfully complete projects in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
- The ability to work well in a team environment and independently.

Annual base salary range: $76,500 – $134,895 (California, Massachusetts, New York, excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington, or Washington DC.
