Systems Engineer, Aerospace / Aviation / Avionics
Job Overview
A Level 5 GN&C Integration Engineer drives the end‑to‑end development, integration, and verification of complex aerospace or defense systems. This senior staff role requires translating high‑level requirements into actionable control algorithms, validating software‑in‑the‑loop (SWIL) / hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HWIL) environments, and overseeing system performance across all mission phases. The role leads the design, analysis, and integration of cutting‑edge flight control and estimation architectures, bridging system simulation, algorithmic design, flight software implementation, and hardware testing to ensure seamless vehicle performance from concept to deployment.
Key Responsibilities- Algorithm & Control Design:
Tune advanced control laws, state estimators (e.g., Kalman filters), and guidance logic for complex trajectories and mission profiles. - System Integration:
Integrate GN&C algorithms into 6‑DOF dynamic simulations and collaborate with systems, avionics, and software teams for hardware compatibility. - Testing & Validation:
Oversee verification and validation (V&V) protocols including HWIL testing, simulation dispersion analysis, and post‑flight data analysis. - Requirement Definition:
Translate mission constraints and customer needs into specific GN&C hardware/software flow‑down requirements. - Technical Leadership:
Guide junior engineers, present findings at design reviews (PDR/CDR), and lead root‑cause analysis during anomaly resolution.
- Strong foundation in classical/modern control theory, flight mechanics, and trajectory optimization.
- Proficiency in developing and maintaining analysis tools in MATLAB/Simulink and C++ or Python.
- Must be a U.S. Person (Citizen or Permanent Resident) with active Final Secret and ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government DoD Top Secret clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or Physics with 12+ years of experience (Master’s degree with 10+ years, Ph.D. with 8+ years).
- Experience with Fleet Ballistic Missile systems.
- Experience with specialized GN&C phases such as Rendezvous and Proximity Operations, hypersonic re‑entry, or multi‑vehicle system integration.
- Familiarity with Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools.
- Active, in‑scope DoD Top‑Secret clearance or Special Access Program (SAP) access.
This position requires a government security clearance. You must be a U.S. Citizen and possess an active Final Secret clearance, with the ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance.
Location & Working ArrangementOnsite, full‑time at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. Remote work is not permitted.
BenefitsMedical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short‑Term Disability, Long‑Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, Employee Assistance Program, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid Time Off, and Holidays. Additional incentive plan eligibility applies.
