Job Description
Space is a critical domain, connecting our technologies, our security and our humanity. While others view space as a destination, we see it as a realm of possibilities, where we can innovate, invest, inspire and integrate our capabilities to transform the future.
At Lockheed Martin Space, we aim to harness the full potential of space to cultivate innovation, reduce costs, and push the boundaries of what technology can achieve. We are creating future‑ready solutions, focusing on resiliency and urgency through our 21st Century Security vision. We are erasing boundaries and forming partnerships across industries and around the world. We are advancing spacecraft and the workforce to fuel the next generation.
And we are reimagining how space can connect us, ensuring security and prosperity.
Join us in shaping a new era in space and find a career that's built for you.
Lockheed Martin Space — Your Mission is Ours.
OverviewAt Lockheed Martin, your work has real impact. Every day our teams design and deliver satellites and spacecraft that:
- Provide early warning for severe weather and global threats
- Connect troops and critical missions across the globe
- Enable GPS navigation for billions of people
- Support exploration and scientific discovery beyond our planet
But going to space is just the beginning. What matters most is what happens once we get there.
We are developing the next generation of intelligent satellites—spacecraft that operate like “smartphones in orbit,” with software that can be updated in flight to adapt to changing mission needs. These innovations are redefining what’s possible in space.
If you are driven to solve hard problems, push technical boundaries, and contribute to missions that truly matter, we want you on our team.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering or similar technical field
- 4+ years of professional work experience performing rigid body kinematics and/or dynamics simulation
- 2+ years of experience performing multi‑body dynamics using MSC ADAMS or equivalent
- Experience building and correlating multi‑body dynamics models with test data for model validation
- Proficiency in programming and scripting using Matlab, Python, or equivalent
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance, thus US citizenship is required
- Master’s degree or PhD in Aerospace, Structural, or Mechanical Engineering with 10 years of rigid body kinematics and/or dynamics simulation experience
- Experience mentoring and training junior engineers in multi‑body dynamics simulation techniques and best practices
- Proficiency performing kinematic/dynamic analysis of mechanisms, test support equipment, and stage separation
- Proficiency building and correlating multi‑body dynamics models with test data for model validation
- Experience using NX/Nastran, Abaqus, ADAMS, LS-Dyna, Matlab, Mathcad and CREO for analysis of spacecraft, aircraft, or missiles
- Experience in the planning and execution of static, vibration, acoustic, modal, and shock testing for aerospace flight hardware
- Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal, self‑motivated, and able and willing to support multiple projects
- Lead structural dynamics analyses that shape the performance and survivability of missile and spacecraft flight hardware, from early concept through flight.
- Develop, refine, and own high‑fidelity dynamic models using both in‑house and industry‑standard tools to simulate mechanical loads, deployment mechanisms, and complex separation events.
- Drive loads development at both the component and system level, translating real‑world environments into actionable design criteria and validated engineering solutions.
- Plan and execute dynamic and static test campaigns—including separation events—then synthesize results into clear, data‑driven insights that influence design decisions.
- Partner across a multidisciplinary engineering team to perform design trades, guide architecture decisions, and ensure structural integrity throughout the product lifecycle.
- Define and support dynamic test requirements, oversee test execution, and lead data reduction…
