Automation Engineering Technician

Job Summary:

Work with minimal direction to perform advanced manufacturing equipment/process troubleshooting, provide technical training to peers, and support continuous improvement efforts. Supports onsite shift operators and mechanics for troubleshooting outside of normal business hours, analyzes process data to understand performance and shifts, and performs or directs technical assistance on equipment, products, materials, and processes.

Essential Duties
  • Perform the highest level of complex troubleshooting for automated manufacturing equipment, including software, electrical, pneumatic, camera, and/or hydraulic systems.
  • Maintain, accurately follow, and record protocols, procedures, and maintenance work logs.
  • Apply fundamental troubleshooting skills to areas outside of subject‑matter expertise.
  • Provide support to onsite operators and mechanics outside of normal business hours.
  • Give work direction and training to less experienced mechanics and technicians.
  • Partner with engineering to develop and execute process validations.
  • Develop standards, tools, and methods, and provide or write documentation to the required level.
  • Build and repair equipment, as applicable.
  • Use Solid Edge/Solid Works or equivalent 3‑D modeling software to design, create drawings, and manufacture parts.
  • Identify a wide range of trends or problems, help solve or direct their solutions, and interpret and recommend actions.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • May be required to provide process data from machines to other engineering groups.
  • Serve as a lead, coach, and mentor to less experienced technicians and equipment operators.
  • Assist in new automation activities including design reviews, PFMEAs, FAT, and SAT.
  • May be required to travel to machine supplier locations for periods of time.
Minimum Qualification Requirements Education
  • Two‑year technical degree or equivalent of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
Experience
  • Minimum 10 years experience in a technical role, or equivalent of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Experience in the medical device industry preferred.
  • Skills and experience in design and troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical, and/or software systems.
  • Experience in the fabrication of mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems and assemblies preferred.
  • Experience in high‑speed automation.
  • Experience in RF welding applications.
  • Experience in cam automation.
Skills
  • Understand and able to read/write PLC ladder logic (Allen Bradley and/or Siemens preferred).
  • Understand and able to troubleshoot vision systems (Cognex preferred).
  • Ability to successfully carry out a wide range of projects and resolve the most complex problems.
  • Direct experience with pneumatic, electrical, and control software systems involving complex troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to specify and procure materials and components needed for projects, test equipment, and production equipment.
  • Skills to interface with manufacturers, vendors, and contractors in the development of equipment and control systems.
  • Able to provide input toward the design of mechanical/electro‑mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply complex mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask.
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out tasks as directed and meet scheduled timelines.
  • Prefer knowledge in machining, welding, fastener and assembly technologies.
Physical Requirements

General labor environment: use of personal protective equipment; reading, speaking, hearing; walking, bending, standing, stretching/reaching; hand/finger dexterity; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds, or transporting up to 500 pounds via carts or mechanized equipment. Target Pay Range: $30.00 to $38.00 hourly.
Target Bonus on Base: 7.0%
