Role DescriptionCODI Manufacturing is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, program, troubleshoot, and support control systems for custom industrial equipment. This role works closely with mechanical engineering, electrical assembly, fabrication, production, and customers to deliver reliable automation systems from concept through installation.
- The ideal candidate is hands‑on, technically strong, and comfortable in a custom manufacturing environment where projects may include beverage packaging equipment, material handling systems, conveyors, process equipment, and industrial control panels. Design and develop control systems for custom industrial equipment.
- Program PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, VFDs, sensors, safety devices, and related automation hardware.
- Create, review, and update electrical schematics, panel layouts, I/O lists, and controls documentation.
- Support control panel design and coordination with UL 508A panel build requirements.
- Troubleshoot electrical, controls, communication, and automation issues during build, testing, startup, and installation.
- Work with mechanical engineers and shop personnel to integrate controls with machine design.
- Support equipment testing, commissioning, factory acceptance testing, and customer acceptance testing.
- Assist with field startup, service, and remote troubleshooting as needed.
- Document programs, revisions, settings, and system changes.
- Maintain safe work practices around energized equipment and industrial machinery.
- PLC and HMI programming experience.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for electrical and automation systems.
- Familiarity with sensors, motors, VFDs, servo, pneumatics, safety circuits, and industrial networks.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across engineering and production teams.
- Reliable attendance and strong attention to detail.
- Availability and willingness to travel.
- Preferred Experience with CODESYS, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, or similar PLC platforms.
- Preferred Experience with industrial automation, packaging equipment, conveyors, or material handling systems.
- Preferred Experience with UL 508A control panels.
- Preferred Familiarity with Solid Works Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar design tools.
- Preferred Experience with servo motion control, robotics, vision systems, or safety PLCs.
