Emergency Communication Specialist – Dispatcher

Emergency Communication Specialists are officially designated as first responders in the state of Colorado, recognizing the critical role they play in public safety. They serve as the essential link between the community and emergency services, ensuring that law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel are dispatched quickly and efficiently. If you thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, and high-intensity environment, we encourage you to apply.

For those with prior 911 dispatching experience, we welcome your skills, positive attitude, and openness to learning. Salary is adjusted based on experience, knowledge, and abilities.

Training

Boulder County Communications provides all the necessary training to prepare you for a career as an Emergency Communication Specialist. Our team is cross‑trained in four key disciplines:
Call‑Taking, Law Enforcement Dispatching, Fire/EMS/Search & Rescue Dispatching, and our Data Channel, which supports law enforcement with intelligence and field operations. This training program, which typically takes one year to complete, equips specialists with the skills to operate complex computer systems and manage multiple responsibilities in a high‑stress, highly technical environment.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, the ability to multitask in fast‑moving situations, and proficient typing skills of at least 40 words per minute. Emergency Communication Specialists must be able to work twelve‑hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as emergencies can happen at any time.
