Job Summary
The Associate I, Donation Services is typically the first point of contact for customers dropping off items at retail centers and/or stand‑alone donation centers (ADC). The Associate greets customers, accepts donations, and assists in lifting/unloading donations from a customer’s vehicle or other area. They handle goods with care and sort items appropriately for the sales floor or other locations.
This position works outside in all weather conditions. Excellent customer service skills are a must! The position is part‑time; working weekends is required.
Donation hours at our Stores are Monday through Saturday 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM and Sunday 9:00 AM to 7:30 PM.
Pay: $16.45 per hour.
Pay Type: Daily Pay available via Daily Pay. Goodwill is a PSLF eligible employer. Eligible for paid holidays, sick leave, jury duty, bereavement leave. Employees may contribute to a retirement plan subject to age requirement.
- Provides excellent customer service, greeting customers in a timely manner, answering product questions as needed.
- Assists every customer by unloading donations from a vehicle or other area.
- Ensures that donated items are handled with care and sorted into appropriate bins or production areas.
- Inspects all donations within assigned areas and makes quality decisions to sort for sales floor or for shipment to other locations.
- Ensures a safe, organized, and clean environment is maintained for customers and employees within the donation entrance and parking lot areas.
- Maintains remote donation centers, sheds, and/or trailer, following opening and closing procedures when working at a remote site.
- Ensures supplies are kept well stocked at the remote site as necessary.
- Tracks and reports on donation levels daily to ensure trailers do not become over‑stocked when working in remote donation center locations.
- Communicates timely when donation warehouses and/or trailers become full and a truck is needed.
- Follows all retail center/donation center policies and procedures.
- Assists drivers in loading and unloading donations onto the truck when necessary.
- Follows all safety processes and procedures to help provide a safe working environment for employees and customers.
- Crosstrains in other departments or areas and acts as a back‑up for other areas as required.
- May be required to report to the store ADC or stand‑alone center when necessary.
- Job duties may extend beyond the tasks listed and may include additional responsibilities as required.
- High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- One (1) year of retail experience is preferred.
- Must be able to make decisions by following Goodwill standards and guidelines.
- Must have basic computer skills to log into a computer system to order supplies and to send and receive email.
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions with varying temperatures.
- Must be able to use safety equipment to assist with lifting heavy objects such as a dolly or pallet jack.
- Ability to read, comprehend, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with customers, managers, supervisors, staff, and peers.
- Must be able to work a varied schedule to include weekends, evenings, and holidays with occasional overtime as necessary.
