OverviewThis role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, developing Blue Moon landers and related products for safe, low‑cost space flight.
ResponsibilitiesDesign, implement, test, verify, and deploy mission operations, safety‑critical software systems that enable Earth‑based operators to perform mission‑critical functions supporting Blue Origin operations. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define software requirements, architectures, and designs. Develop rapid prototypes, coordinate verification and qualification, produce documentation, follow development processes that meet safety and reliability standards, support frequent update cycles for pre‑flight testing, mission validation, and operations training.
Integrate software components, build and run unit‑level and system‑level tests, validate with software‑in‑the‑loop and hardware‑in‑the‑loop simulators, and release certified code.
- B.S. or higher degree in Software or Engineering related field.
- 3+ years of software development experience.
- Experience with UI/UX design principles and responsive design.
- Proficiency in development using the React framework.
- Strong development skills in Python, JavaScript/Typescript, or similar languages.
- Experience with RESTful API design and development.
- Experience in full lifecycle software engineering: system design, implementation, verification, integration, and release.
- Skills in software build automation, continuous integration, configuration management, verification, and deployment.
- Experience designing and implementing scalable software architectures.
- Familiarity with Linux environment and basic Unix system administration activities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross‑functional teams.
- Passion for spaceflight and space exploration.
- 3+ years of proven ability in developing software supporting systems in critical applications (e.g., aviation, spaceflight, nuclear power, business‑critical web services).
- Experience crafting and developing software for aerospace operations.
- Familiar with infrastructure‑as‑code, services‑as‑code, and cloud technologies.
- Understanding of space‑based communications protocols, such as CCSDS.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity practices to ensure the safety of software systems.
- Compliance experience with NPR 7150.2x.
- Experience with fault‑tolerant software design, human error assessment, and human error prevention and fault tolerance.
- Experience with spacecraft subsystems and associated software.
