This Job Description outlines the basic requirements, duties, and general responsibilities of the position of Lifeguard. Unless modified by a written Employment Agreement, this position is “at-will,” which means the Ken-Caryl Ranch Metropolitan District (“District”) may terminate the employment relationship at any time and for no reason, subject only to the requirements of federal and state law. Similarly, the employee may terminate the employment relationship without notice at any time for no reason.

Job Summary:

Lifeguards work under the direct supervision of the Aquatics and Community Supervisor, Aquatics and Community Coordinator and Staff Supervisor. Daily hours range from 5:30 am to 10:00 pm, with some hours earlier or later for special events or swim meets. Lifeguards are responsible for providing a safe and clean environment and an enjoyable experience for our guests. Lifeguards will also perform the duties of Guest Service
- Aquatics when necessary.

Essential Functions:

The following duties are an overview of the primary duties and responsibilities of a Lifeguard and should not be considered an all-inclusive list.

  • Provides supervision/surveillance of all patrons in the pool area at all times;
    Interacts with customers in a professional manner regarding emergencies, safety, violations, and other customer service issues.
  • Demonstrates lifeguarding skills, knowledge, and execution to exceed industry standards.
  • Reacts calmly and immediately to emergencies and administers proper care; provides emergency care and treatment until EMS arrives.
  • Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
  • Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
  • Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
  • Evaluate conditions for safety and initiate the aquatics emergency action plan as required.
  • Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable.
  • Always enforces pool rules and policies; utilizes appropriate communication devices such as whistles, hand signals, and written and spoken words; completes daily and required documents legibly and professionally.
  • Performs daily pool cleaning and maintenance duties, including but not limited to regular cleaning of strainer baskets, vacuuming, and skimming the pool, cleaning deck and grass areas, emptying trash receptacles, cleaning restrooms, and maintaining the overall cleanliness of the facility.
  • Attend at least 4 hours of in-service a month, along with any other required training or meetings.
  • Consistently promote a positive, professional image of the District and provide excellent customer service at all times.
  • Tracks admissions and utilizes the software system for all registrations, payments, memberships, and rentals.
  • Responsible for adhering to cash handling procedures to ensure that all transactions are accounted for appropriately.
  • Greet and assist patrons who walk in; answer questions, provide general customer service; resolve issues or direct to another staff member.
  • Provides excellent first-point-of-contact customer service to guests.
  • Responsible for cleaning/maintenance of admissions hut and surrounding areas.
Requirements

Required Experience:
  • Must be at least 15 years of age by the first day of Lifeguard Training.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Ability to maintain knowledge of CPR, Rescue Breathing, First Aid, and all other emergency care and treatment at test-ready levels and ability to react competently, calmly, and effectively in emergency situations.
    • Effective and clear written and oral communicator with a variety of audiences, including staff, the community, and supervisors.
    • Ability to problem solve in challenging situations.
