The Littleton Public Schools is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and highly motivated Athletic Director to lead our exceptional interscholastic athletics program for Grades 6-12. Located in a high-performing suburban community in Massachusetts, our program is committed to fostering a culture of academic excellence, sportsmanship, and competitive success.
This is a full-time, year-round administrative position reporting to the Superintendent of Schools and High School Principal. The Athletic Director is responsible for the overall vision, leadership, management, and operational efficiency of a comprehensive high school athletics program.
Program Scope
Sports: 24 Varsity-level sports
Teams: 44 teams (Varsity, JV, and Freshman levels)
Personnel: 46 dedicated coaches
Affiliation:
Member of the MIAA (Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association) and Midland-Wachusett League
Key Responsibilities
I. Program Leadership and Personnel Management
Coaching Staff Management:
Recruit, interview, hire, train, and manage a current staff of 46 coaches.
Evaluation:
Conduct regular, comprehensive, and objective evaluations of all coaching staff, ensuring compliance with school policies and MIAA regulations
Professional Development:
Organize and facilitate professional development opportunities for coaches focused on best practices, safety, positive coaching, and rules compliance
Vision & Culture:
Define and uphold the standards for student-athlete conduct, academic eligibility, and sportsmanship across all teams
II. Operations, Scheduling, and Logistics
Scheduling:
Develop, manage, and distribute comprehensive competition and practice schedules for all 44 teams across three seasons. Coordinates officials, team physician, athletic trainer, and police detail as required, and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games
Logistics & Transportation:
Coordinate all team travel, transportation, and scheduling of buses/drivers
Facility Management:
Schedule and oversee the daily use of all athletic facilities, including fields, gymnasiums, and weight rooms. Prepare facilities for games and events, ensuring safety and readiness. Coordinates use of athletic facilities with Town Organizations
Inventory & Supplies:
Manage the procurement, storage, and issuance of all athletic equipment, uniforms, and supplies. Conduct annual inventory and budgeting for necessary replacements. Maintains athletic department records such as contest results, award winners, and scholarships
III. Financial and Administrative Management
Budgeting:
Prepare, administer, and monitor the annual operating budget for the entire athletic department
Financial Processing:
Process payments for game officials, referees, scorekeepers, security, and other event support personnel. Supervises ticket sales and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds
Gate Receipts & Ticketing:
Manage all aspects of event ticketing, including pricing, sales, and the accurate reconciliation and deposit of gate receipts and fundraising revenue
Compliance:
Ensure all teams, coaches, and student-athletes are in full compliance with MIAA rules, state laws (e.g., concussion protocols, cardiac regulations), and school district policies. Verifies each athlete's eligibility according to established physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport
IV. Public Relations and Community Engagement
Communication:
Serve as the primary liaison between the athletic department, school administration, parents, students, booster clubs, and the media. Attends meetings of League, District, and State Athletic Directors
Event Oversight:
Attend and supervise home contests, ensuring the safety of all participants and spectators. Manage game-day operations and public address announcements
Recruitment:
Oversee and advise student-athletes on the college recruiting process, ensuring compliance with NCAA guidelines and providing resources
