The Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse provides direct patient care to all patient types appropriate to the Medical/Surgical Unit.
SUMMARY OF MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Clinical Director of Inpatient Services and the Assistant Nurse Manager, the Medical/Surgical RN assumes responsibility for a patient assignment on the Medical/Surgical Unit. The RN utilizes and acquires knowledge of current and best practices in patient care. The RN retains the responsibility for the direction and guidance of ancillary personnel activities within the unit. The RN works to support the 5 pillars of excellence: people, quality, service, finance and growth.
The RN understands and adheres to all LRH and department specific policies and procedures as well as to the practice standards set forth in the New Hampshire Nurse Practice Act. This position will support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of Littleton Regional Healthcare and demonstrates a commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the public and coworkers.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supports and contributes to the mission and vision of Littleton Regional Hospital with a continuous focus on excellence in customer service and patient care delivery.
- Establishes and maintains a professional relationship with patients, visitors, staff, physicians and the community.
- Assures confidentiality of patient information at all times.
- Assesses personal learning and professional growth needs and seeks educational opportunities to meet those needs.
- Performs other duties as needed within the scope of practice in support of departmental and institutional needs and requirements.
- Adheres to LRH, department and compliance policies, procedures, regulations and laws.
- Employs written policies and procedures according to the Littleton Regional Healthcare Nursing Department
- Completes assigned applicable nursing competencies in a timely manner
- Able to manage multiple priorities
- Attends unit staff meetings
- Participates in annual performance appraisal of self with Nurse Manger in a timely manner
- Provides complete and accurate charting of care and interventions provided to facilitate high quality of care across the patient continuum
- Provides education to patients and their families
- Works to include the patient and family in plan of care for patient
- Works as a team with other members of Medical/Surgical unit to ensure that patient supplies are charged for in a timely manner
- Exhibits excellent customer service to both external and internal customers
- Works consistently to improve the customer experience
- Participates in orientation of new personnel
- Floats and/or is cross trained to work in other areas of LRH
- Recognizes educational needs and facilitates professional growth
- Participates in in-house educational programs
- Maintains BCLS certification
- Maintains ACLS certification
- Maintains PALS certification
- Participates in and promotes environmental safety
- Promotes patient safety
- Performs independently and functions in a professional manner
- Participates in annual performance appraisal of self with Nurse Manger in a timely manner.
- Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Hampshire
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Bachelor of Science preferred
- 1-2 years previous clinical nursing experience in acute care setting preferred
- National certification strongly encouraged
Clinical Director of Inpatient Services
SUPERVISES:
A Registered Nurse directs, by licensure, all nursing activities performed by ancillary staff assigned to the unit. Numbers supervised varies according to patient census and acuity.
