Salary Range: $27.46 To $42.02 Hourly

Electrical Technician is a skilled trades position responsible for performing electrical installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair across the hospital campus and its satellite locations. This includes working with circuits, panels, lighting, outlets, medical equipment, emergency systems, and security infrastructure. The technician must be knowledgeable of applicable codes and able to interpret schematics, perform required regulatory testing, and ensure compliance with life safety and electrical standards.

In addition to electrical work, this position is responsible for supporting general facility maintenance needs, including basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, groundskeeping, and preventative maintenance tasks. The role is essential in maintaining safe, operational, and code‑compliant hospital infrastructure. All work must be performed in accordance with hospital policies, safety regulations, and governing codes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Electrical Maintenance and Installation

  • Install complete circuits from panel to end‑use device.
  • Install conduit, connectors, hangers, and pull wire to code specifications.
  • Install and connect devices such as lights, switches, receptacles, and motors.
  • Replace or upgrade outdated electrical wiring and devices.
  • Install and connect panel boards and circuit breakers.
  • Perform regulatory testing and documentation for electrical panels, receptacles, and transfer switches.
  • Conduct safety inspections and testing for all electrical and clinical devices.
  • Maintain drawings and labeling of circuits throughout the hospital.

Regulatory Compliance and Codes

  • Interpret and apply National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA, and healthcare accreditation standards.
  • Prepare and update compliance documentation.
  • Assist with inspections and testing for life safety systems (fire alarms, sprinklers, emergency lighting, generators).

Security and Specialized Systems

  • Maintain and troubleshoot in‑house/offsite security systems and access control systems.
  • Perform quarterly testing on infant security (HUGS), police call, and related systems.
  • Maintain employee security badge database.
  • Support installation of new security system hardware and cabling.

Medical Gas and HVAC

  • Interpret alarms and perform functional tests for medical gas systems.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and adjustments on HVAC systems in coordination with energy management systems.
General Maintenance & Repair
  • Perform minor repairs independently in plumbing, carpentry, painting, and basic electrical systems.
  • Staff member will be required to complete preventative maintenance (PM) tasks on any equipment including but not limited to mechanical equipment, beds, stretchers, clocks, O₂ alarms, fire extinguishers, and emergency lighting.
Groundskeeping and Seasonal Maintenance
  • Mow lawns, shovel snow, and apply ice melt/salt to exterior areas to maintain safe walkways and driveways.
  • Support seasonal landscaping and gardening tasks as directed.
Tool and Equipment Management
  • Clean, lubricate, and store hand tools, power tools, and painting equipment appropriately after each use.
  • Maintain clean and orderly shops and storage areas.
Facility Rounds and Security
  • Conduct door, window, and equipment checks as required.
  • Serve as night watchman in emergency situations until properly relieved.
  • Remain vigilant and familiar with all building layouts and security checkpoints.
  • Ability to conduct daily facility rounds and work independently during weekend rotations.
Administrative & Communication Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities and inspections.
  • Communicate professionally with internal departments and external vendors to coordinate maintenance tasks.
  • Will be required to maintain all hospital annual competencies and training courses within the hospital platform.
  • All other duties as assigned.
