Full‑time position reporting to the Center Director

Under the direction and general supervision of the Center Director, the Infant/Toddler Teacher II/III is primarily responsible for providing quality early childhood education experiences through a center‑based program for a diverse population of infants and toddlers. The teacher supports assistants and volunteers, participates in a teaching team that implements a developmentally appropriate curriculum, and assists in maintaining support services for special needs children.

The role involves positive relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and families, adherence to Head Start Performance Standards, program policies, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations, and upholding the agency’s confidentiality policy and ethical standards.

• Act in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and all applicable regulations to ensure the safe and healthy operation of the child‑care center.
• Maintain classroom/play yard environments to meet health and safety standards.
• Facilitate and participate in curriculum implementation and activity development.
• Design individualized activities that build on each child’s strengths and growth areas.
• Administer developmental screenings and assessments, conduct observations, maintain portfolios, and share outcomes with families.
• Partner with parents, using assessment outcomes, to develop child and family goals.
• Conduct four educational conferences each year—two at home and two onsite.
• Assist in identifying potential special needs or mental health needs and coordinate referrals and services.
• Implement Individualized Family Services Plans and/or Child and Family Consultant recommendations.
• Provide opportunities for children to socially interact and cooperate.
• Design developmentally appropriate classroom interests that promote language, literacy, physical, social/emotional, and cognitive growth.
• Model effective teaching strategies and encourage positive interactions among staff, children, parents, and community members.
• Establish mutual expectations with parents regarding the educational experience.
• Encourage parent participation and engagement in the classroom.
• Provide parental education on child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
• Assist parents in documentation and collection of educational and classroom in‑kind supplies, submitting reports to supervisor.
• Attend and participate in agency trainings, workshops, in‑service sessions, and staff meetings.
• Engage in professional career development goals and mentor/coaching processes.
• Compile observations and work samples, update children’s portfolios.
• Ensure sanitation of classroom materials and equipment; file education‑related materials; update parent bulletin boards.

• Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education or in Social Work, Human Services, or Health with a minimum of 24 Early Childhood Education units.
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or in Social Work, Human Services, or Health with a minimum of 24 Early Childhood Education units.
• State‑required physical examination, current tuberculosis test, measles and pertussis immunization, influenza vaccine, and verified fingerprint and criminal records clearance prior to employment.
• Possession or ability to obtain Pediatric First Aid/CPR Certification within 60 days, maintained throughout employment.
• Valid California driver’s license, current personal vehicle insurance or qualifying driving record to cover agency vehicle insurance.
• One year of experience working in child development, social services, or health‑related agency.
• Three or more units in Infant/Toddler coursework.
• Completion of coursework or eligibility to complete coursework in child abuse, substance abuse, and domestic violence within one year of hire.
