Methodist Hospital, part of SA Health, is a leading healthcare provider in San Antonio, specializing in a wide range of medical services from emergency care to specialized surgery. We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Nuclear Medicine team within our Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this role, you will provide specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures in a supportive, fast‑paced, and highly collaborative environment.
As a Registered Nurse in Nuclear Medicine, you will coordinate and deliver patient‑centered care before, during, and after nuclear medicine and related imaging or interventional procedures. You will perform thorough nursing assessments, review patient history, allergies, and current medications, verify orders, and ensure that patients are appropriately prepared for procedures, including NPO status, medication adjustments, and IV access. You will collaborate closely with nuclear medicine technologists, radiologists, cardiologists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to promote safe and effective use of radiopharmaceuticals and imaging modalities.
Your responsibilities will include starting and managing IV lines, administering ordered medications, monitoring patients during pharmacologic and exercise stress tests, observing for hemodynamic changes, and promptly recognizing and responding to signs of distress or adverse reactions. You will provide continuous monitoring of vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and overall patient status, ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout each procedure. You will support radiation safety practices by following established protocols, utilizing protective equipment, and educating patients and families on post‑procedure precautions when appropriate.
The Nuclear Medicine RN will document all aspects of patient care accurately and timely in the electronic medical record, including assessments, nursing interventions, medication administration, patient education, and response to treatment. You will participate in pre‑ and post‑procedure teaching, explaining the purpose and steps of the exam in clear, reassuring language, addressing questions, and reinforcing discharge instructions and follow‑up plans. You will also play an active role in coordinating care with inpatient units, outpatient clinics, and referring providers to support smooth patient flow and continuity of care.
Working within Methodist Hospital’s supportive and inclusive culture, you will be expected to demonstrate professionalism, clinical competence, and strong communication skills. You will contribute to a team environment that emphasizes mutual respect, accountability, and innovation in patient care. The role involves adhering to all regulatory and hospital policies regarding medication management, infection prevention, radiation safety, and patient privacy. You may be involved in quality improvement initiatives, performance metrics, and evidence‑based practice projects that enhance patient outcomes within Nuclear Medicine and the broader imaging services.
This position is ideal for a nurse who is passionate about both technology and direct patient care, who thrives in a procedural environment, and who values teamwork and continuous learning.
Methodist Hospital offers competitive salaries, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for professional growth, including cross‑training, continuing education, and career advancement within our Healthcare & Medical Services department.
