Responsible to ensure aircraft and weather conditions are airworthy to transport medical crew and patients to receiving hospitals within an assigned operational area. Responsible for compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FAR), Aeronautical Information Manual (AIM), and General Operations Manual guidelines (GOM).
Essential Functions & Responsibilities- Operate Air Methods aircraft safely and legally.
- Complete pre‑flight checks and sign off of the Daily Flight Log.
- Maintain final authority over operations and safety.
- Familiarize the medical flight team with the medical interior and systems.
- Complete required documentation.
- Conduct detailed flight planning with short notice.
- Participate in training, meetings, projects, committees, and community outreach.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
- Regular scheduled attendance (7/7 schedule – 12 hour shifts).
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school and 2–5 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Maximum weight 250 pounds.
- Must be under 70 years of age.
- Positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public.
- 2000 total flight hours with minimum 1500 flight hours in category.
- 1000 hours PIC in category.
- 500 hours of rotor wing turbine time.
- 200 hours cross‑country flight time, at least 50 hours at night.
- 100 hours unaided night as PIC (at least 50 hours unaided; up to 100 hours NVG may substitute).
- 50 hours actual or head‑up instrument time in flight; simulator time does not count.
- For RW candidates who are FW rated, 100+ hours FW actual or head‑up instrument time can reduce RW required instrument time to 25 hours.
- Commercial & Instrument Rating for category and class of aircraft.
- ATP rating in category.
- First or Second Class FAA Medical certificate required.
Position subject to drug and/or alcohol testing per DOT/FAA requirements (pre‑employment, random, reasonable cause/suspicion, post‑accident).
