Job Description

We have an opening for a Business Operations Specialist supporting the National Ignition Facility (NIF) — the world’s most powerful and energetic laser facility. In this role, you will provide administrative and operational support for NIF tour programs and related activities, ensuring efficient coordination, scheduling, communication, and compliance with Laboratory policies and procedures. This position is in the National Ignition Facility & Photon Science (NIF&PS) Directorate.

In

this role, you will
  • Coordinate and administer day‑to‑day operational support for NIF tour programs and related outreach activities.
  • Exercise knowledge and decision‑making judgement to manage priorities, resolve administrative and operational issues and recommend improvements to processes and systems.
  • Schedule, track, and manage tour requests, visitor information, approvals, and required documentation.
  • Act as liaison for tour participants, internal staff, and partner organizations, responding to inquiries and routing information.
  • Establish and maintain databases, spreadsheets, and tracking systems to monitor project status, action items, and results related to the NIF tours program.
  • Assist in business development activities, including gathering and analyzing data, preparing recommendations, and supporting NIF tour program initiatives. Assist with the development, documentation, and maintenance of administrative procedures and workflows.
  • Coordinate administrative support, including managing calendars, access requirements, preparing materials and supporting high‑level tours and events.
  • Collaborate with NIF staff, security, and administrative partners to ensure tours comply with Laboratory requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q‑level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Experience interacting with all levels of personnel, both internally and externally to an organization, while exercising a high degree of discretion, mature judgment, and tact in handling issues of a classified and/or sensitive nature.
  • Advanced organizational and attention to detail skills, flexibility, and ability to prioritize multiple and complex tasks, often with conflicting priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent time management and advanced organizational and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to ensure accuracy, prioritize, anticipate, identify, and resolve multiple and complex tasks and problems, and work effectively in a fast‑paced and rapidly changing environment with short deadlines and frequent interruptions.
  • Experience working with complex software applications and ability to learn new applications, with advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite applications: email, calendaring, and using Excel to develop and maintain spreadsheets.
  • Advanced communication skills necessary to effectively explain, present, and resolve various and multi‑faced issues using creative problem‑solving skills.
Pay Range

$82,140 - $100,608 Annually

This is the lowest to highest salary in good faith we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
