Mechanical Superintendent — Mechanical/HVAC Construction (DOD Project)
We are seeking a Mechanical Superintendent to oversee field execution for a large mechanical construction project in Livermore, CA supporting a secure government (DOD) facility. This is a hands‑on field leadership role responsible for safety, subcontractor coordination, installation quality, and daily construction execution.
This position is ideal for experienced superintendents from industrial, mission‑critical, refinery, power, pharmaceutical, or heavy mechanical construction environments — not office‑based project managers.
What You’ll Be Doing- Lead daily field construction activities and supervise craft labor & subcontractors
- Oversee installation of piping (carbon, stainless & alloy), rotating & stationary equipment, and structural steel
- Coordinate welding, rigging, insulation, heat tracing, coatings, hydrotesting & NDE activities
- Ensure compliance with project safety standards and conduct site safety audits (PTAs/TSOs)
- Track productivity, material usage, and installation quantities
- Verify material deliveries, storage, and equipment alignment
- Review drawings (P&IDs, isometrics, structural) and manage RFIs & field changes
- Develop punch lists and oversee system walkdowns & testing completion
- Maintain daily field reports and progress documentation
- Interface with client reps, engineers, QA/QC and project management teams
- Enforce subcontractor compliance with schedule, scope and contract requirements
- Bachelor’s + 7 yrs
, OR Associate’s + 9 yrs
, OR HS Diploma/GED + 11 yrs mechanical construction supervision experience - Strong background in mechanical piping & equipment installation
- Proven safety leadership experience
Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and isometric drawings - Experience managing subcontractors and field crews
- Valid driver’s license meeting company driving requirements
- Industrial / refinery / power plant / pharmaceutical / mission‑critical construction
- Hydrotesting, welding QA/QC coordination, and equipment setting/alignment
- Government or secure facility project experience (nice to have)
