Mechanical Superintendent

ESPO Corporation is seeking an experienced Mechanical Superintendent for a long-term contract opportunity in Livermore, CA. This role is responsible for leading and overseeing field construction activities on assigned projects to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable execution. The Mechanical Superintendent will manage subcontractors, coordinate daily field operations, maintain schedule integrity, and uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and productivity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide overall supervision of mechanical construction activities, including:
    • Piping (carbon, stainless steel, and alloy)
    • Rotating and stationary equipment
    • Structural steel and rigging
    • Welding (piping and structural)
    • Insulation, heat tracing, fire protection, coatings
    • Hydrostatic testing and non‑destructive examination (NDE)
  • Oversee subcontractor performance and ensure contractual compliance for all mechanical scopes of work.
  • Manage construction scheduling for mechanical activities to ensure milestones and deliverables are achieved.
  • Maintain continuity of work progress and maximize field productivity and efficiency.
  • Serve as a primary field interface with client representatives, A/E teams, subcontractors, and other contractors.
  • Collaborate with Project Management to develop and implement project procedures, standards, and working documents.
  • Authorize purchase requisitions and field design change requests under the supervision of the Construction Manager and Project Manager.
  • Lead site safety efforts, including reviewing and auditing:
    • Pre‑Task Analyses (PTAs)
    • Task Safety Observations (TSOs)
  • Complete daily field reports and photo documentation of construction progress.
  • Review subcontractor three‑week look‑ahead schedules and proactively identify potential issues.
  • Develop and maintain marked‑up and as‑built drawings; assist with RFIs alongside the APM or Field Engineer.
  • Track and verify installed quantities and labor hours to confirm progress.
  • Verify material deliveries meet specifications and are stored and maintained properly.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC to ensure all welders are properly qualified.
  • Witness equipment setting and alignment activities.
  • Perform system walk‑downs before, during, and after hydrostatic testing and sign off on completed testing and restoration.
  • Develop and manage punch lists for incomplete or non‑conforming work.
  • Ensure the most current drawing revisions are being used in the field.
  • Execute project scope changes and ensure field change orders are properly implemented.
  • Oversee craft supervision, staffing levels, site materials, and tool management.
  • Read, interpret, and apply isometric drawings, structural drawings, and P&IDs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned while complying with all company policies and standards.
Qualifications
  • Education & Experience (one of the following required):
    • Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years of mechanical construction management or craft supervision experience
    • Associate Degree and 9+ years of mechanical construction management or craft supervision experience
    • High School Diploma/GED and 11+ years of mechanical construction management or craft supervision experience
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team‑building skills.
  • Proven safety leadership with a strong field safety background.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and field priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
