The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for field operations on assigned project(s) to ensure safe, timely, and profitable completion. This role oversees mechanical and HVAC equipment installations at a federal facility in Livermore, CA and ensures compliance with contractual construction activities, safety standards, and scheduling requirements.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee Mechanical and HVAC equipment installs in Livermore, CA (Champs (DOD) Facility) – open to local and non-local candidates.
- Manage piping (carbon, stainless steel, alloy), rotating and stationary equipment, structural steel, rigging, welding, insulation, heat tracing, hydrostatic testing, NDE techniques, fire protection, and coatings.
- Supervise overall construction efforts including safety, productivity, materials management, scheduling, engineering, and contractual performance.
- Ensure subcontractor contractual compliance for mechanical construction activities.
- Build and maintain effective client and subcontractor relationships; interface with client representatives, A/E representatives, and contractors.
- Collaborate with project management to develop procedures, standards, and working documents.
- Authorize purchase requisitions and field design change requests under supervision of Construction Manager and Project Manager.
- Review and audit safety documentation including PTAs and TSOs regularly.
- Complete daily field reports and document progress with photos.
- Review subcontractor 3-week look-ahead reports to anticipate upcoming work and risks.
- Develop as-built drawing sets and assist with RFIs.
- Direct subcontractors to maintain schedule and verify installed quantities and work hours.
- Verify material deliveries, storage, and preventative maintenance compliance.
- Coordinate with QA/QC Manager to verify welder qualifications.
- Witness equipment setting and alignment.
- Walk down systems before, during, and after hydrostatic testing and sign off on completed system testing and restoration.
- Develop punch lists for incomplete or non-compliant items.
- Ensure current drawing revisions are used in the field.
- Execute project scope and manage field change orders.
- Oversee craft supervision, staffing, and site material/tool management.
- Supervise daily physical construction activities and ensure code/spec compliance.
- Read and interpret isometric drawings, structural drawings, and P&’s.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
- Bachelor Degree and 7 years construction management or craft supervision experience on Mechanical projects;
OR - Associate Degree and 9 years construction management or craft supervision experience on Mechanical projects;
OR - High School Diploma/GED and 11 years construction management or craft supervision experience on Mechanical projects.
- Strong Federal project experience preferred.
- HVAC experience highly preferred.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Strong safety background.
- Experience managing mechanical subcontractors.
- Experience in federal construction environments.
- Strong understanding of construction scheduling and cost control.
- Computer proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
