Salary range: $140,000 - $240,000
We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join our California team. This role leads the estimating and preconstruction process for commercial drywall, metal framing, plaster, EIFS, acoustical ceilings, and related scopes on complex commercial construction projects. The ideal candidate brings strong technical estimating expertise, strategic thinking, industry knowledge, and leadership skills to help secure profitable work and support long-term client relationships.
Key Responsibilities- Lead all phases of the estimating and bidding process from document review through final proposal submission
- Prepare accurate quantity takeoffs, pricing, and scope analysis for drywall, framing, plaster, EIFS, acoustical ceilings, and related scopes
- Review drawings, specifications, addenda, and contract documents to develop complete, competitive estimates
- Develop conceptual, schematic, GMP, negotiated, design-build, and hard-bid estimates
- Analyze project scope, logistics, sequencing, labor productivity, and constructability considerations
- Perform scope reviews and leveling of subcontractor and supplier bid proposals
- Prepare bid clarifications, qualifications, exclusions, alternates, and value engineering recommendations
- Collaborate with operations teams during turnover and provide ongoing support to awarded projects
- Participate in client presentations, preconstruction meetings, and strategic pursuit efforts
- Track market conditions, labor trends, material pricing, and subcontractor capabilities
- Mentor and support Estimators and Junior Estimators while promoting department standards and best practices
- Review and validate estimates prepared by junior team members
- Support estimating process improvements, historical cost tracking, and database management
- Maintain organized bid documentation while managing multiple deadlines with accuracy and professionalism
- Foster a collaborative, team-oriented culture
- Advanced knowledge of metal framing, drywall, acoustical ceilings, plaster, EIFS, fire-rated assemblies, and specialty systems
- Strong understanding of California construction practices, labor conditions, and industry regulations
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and specification documents with precision
- Strong understanding of production rates, labor forecasting, constructability, and cost control
- Ability to identify scope gaps, risk exposure, and coordination challenges
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to manage multiple pursuits and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Proficiency with OST, Quick Bid, Buzz Bid, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Office Suite
- 10+ years of estimating experience within the commercial drywall and framing industry
- Proven experience delivering negotiated, hard-bid, GMP, and design-build estimates on large-scale commercial projects throughout California
- Experience leading or mentoring estimating teams preferred
- Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred, but equivalent industry experience will be considered
