Job Summary:

The Field Safety Representative is a visible, field-based safety partner who helps employees and supervisors plan work, recognize hazards, and implement practical controls before incidents occur. This role conducts inspections, provides coaching and training, supports incident response, maintains required records, and promotes compliance with company policies, project requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations. The Field Safety Representative is a crucial part of the Safety and Management teams, with responsibilities to implement and advance safety culture and safety partnership within the company.

PRIMARY

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conduct routine and focused field inspections to identify unsafe conditions, at-risk behaviors, equipment concerns, and documentation gaps; communicate findings and verify corrective actions are completed.
  • Partner with foremen, general foremen, project teams, subcontractors, and client representatives to strengthen job planning and site-specific safety performance.
  • Review and support completion of daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), pre-task plans, toolbox talks, equipment inspections, and other required field documentation before work begins.
  • Participate in pre-construction and pre-activity planning meetings to evaluate high-risk work and confirm effective controls are in place.
  • Provide new-hire orientation, task-specific coaching, refresher training, tailgate meetings, and safety alerts using clear, field-focused communication.
  • Apply company policies and project safety requirements consistently and respectfully; initiate immediate corrective action when an imminent hazard exists.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of Site-Specific Safety Plans, emergency procedures, and required project safety postings.
  • Observe work involving excavation and trenching, electrical construction, traffic control, lifting operations, mobile equipment, confined spaces, work at height, and other construction hazards
  • Assist with near-miss, injury, vehicle, property-damage, and equipment incident investigations by gathering facts, photographs, statements, and supporting records.
  • Coordinate injury response, medical-provider communication, post-incident testing, and return-to-work activities as directed by the Safety Manager and Human Resources.
  • Maintain organized safety records, inspection reports, training rosters, corrective-action logs, certifications, and digital system entries.
  • Monitor PPE use and condition and identify deficiencies involving tools, vehicles, trailers, equipment, housekeeping, access, or work procedures.
  • Escalate unresolved, repeated, or serious safety concerns promptly and provide accurate status updates to management.
  • Travel between active projects and company locations and support project startups, special training, audits, and emergency response as needed.
AUTHORITY AND STOP-WORK RESPONSIBILITY
  • Immediately stop or pause work when an imminent danger, serious uncontrolled hazard, or clear violation of a critical safety requirement is observed.
  • Notify the responsible supervisor and Safety Manager, document the condition, and support development of an acceptable corrective action before work resumes.
  • Exercise stop-work authority professionally, with the focus on hazard correction and employee protection.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification completed within the previous five years, or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of employment; continuing safety education is expected.
  • Minimum five years of construction, maintenance, utility, electrical, or related field experience
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification, or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of employment.
