PT Umoja Counselor/Coordinator

Salary: $2,075.12/CAH – $2,322.27/CAH

Start Date: Fall 2026 (Attendance at Umoja learning community training required during either the week of Aug 10th or Aug 17th prior to semester start)

Location: Las Positas College, 3000 Campus Hill Dr., Livermore, CA 94551

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide counseling to students, including development of student educational plans based on certificate, associate degree, transfer, and career goals.
  • Provide holistic academic, career, transfer and personal counseling, and referrals to appropriate resources.
  • Organize student dashboard by pathway and disaggregated demographics.
  • Complete campus climate survey to provide insight into elevating care, confidence, and student belonging.
  • Proactively support Black and African American students throughout their academic journey.
  • Assist African American and other students in developing and achieving their immediate and long‑range academic and occupational goals.
  • Teach counseling courses, lead workshops, orientations, and seminars; assist in developing and implementing Umoja learning community co‑curricular activities, including field trips and outreach opportunities.
  • Collaborate with Umoja/BCRC Coordinator on Umoja learning community components per MOU requirements.
  • Academic programs use technology.
  • Provide ongoing campus training on tech platforms.
  • Program coordinators learn to use predictive scheduling.
  • Data dashboards are created for key stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy, or marriage, family, and child counseling; or the equivalent. (

Note:

A bachelor’s degree in one of the listed disciplines and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification.)

Evidence of understanding of and responsiveness to the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, racial and ethnic backgrounds of community‑college students, and how these factors relate to equity‑minded practices.

Desirable Qualifications
  • One year of community college or higher education counseling experience.
  • Direct experience with counseling and supporting Black and/or African American and other students.
  • Umoja training preferred.
