Position: Health Physicist (NWS 00883)

Health Physicist (NWS 00883) THIS POSITION IS FOR SIX MONTHS WITH THE POSSIBILITY TO EXTEND

North Wind Services is actively seeking a highly motivated individual with strong technical skills and a commitment to excellence to join our supplemental labor team supporting the Department of Energy at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). Our team contributes to national security through science, technology, and engineering at vital federal research and development installations.

The ideal candidate is one who thrives in dynamic environments and is eager to develop their expertise while supporting cutting‑edge operations. This position combines hands‑on field work with remote operations using computer‑based systems, offering a unique opportunity to work with advanced technologies in a highly technical and collaborative environment.

Qualified applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre‑employment requirements, including physicals, drug screenings, and background investigations to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Successful candidates will be employees of North Wind Services, a premier government contractor dedicated to employing well‑qualified personnel to advance LLNL's mission in Livermore, CA. While employed by North Wind Services, the employee will take day‑to‑day directions from LLNL technical personnel. Pay, benefits, and employment management functions are provided by North Wind Services.

The Environment, Safety, and Health Directorate has an opening for a Health Physicist to support the LLNL Radiation Safety Program by assisting in developing and/or revising programs associated with each of the functional elements of the Radiation Protection Program implemented by LLNL. The successful candidate will support the Radiation Protection Program through its ongoing development initiatives. This position will rely heavily on health physicists writing technical procedures, designing radiological programs, and conducting radiation protection program assessments and audits.

Duties
  • Assist in the development of radiation safety policies and procedures by drafting, editing, reviewing, and revising controlled documents in the radiation safety programs.
  • Assist in the performance of assessments and audits to evaluate the effective performance of the Radiation Protection Program.
  • Assist in the development and review of radiation protection training materials in support of implementing the Radiation Protection Training & Qualification Program.
  • Assist in RP Records Management identifying records, assigning appropriate record series and supporting the final disposition of RP related Records.
  • Develop and implement the Radiation protection documents in collaboration with Field Health Physicists to align with field aspects and practicality.
  • Participate in Radiation protection improvement initiative.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Radiation Physics, or Radiation Protection or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of 10 CFR 835 and 10 CFR 830 and how to apply that to the development of radiation protection programs.
  • Demonstrated experience performing technical procedure writing.
  • Ability to work independently, under minimal direction as well as in a team environment with a broad cross‑section of people and organizations, managing projects, and meeting schedules.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment and to present, explain, and advise on complex technical or operational information.
Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Prior experience working with Radiation Protection Programs at DOE Laboratories.
  • Demonstrated experience performing job hazard analyses or radiological work planning.
