Job Description
We have multiple openings for Sr. Electronics Technologists
. You will develop, test, troubleshoot, evaluate, operate, and maintain experimental, research, and prototype equipment associated with mechanical systems in the National Ignition Facility and Photon Science Directorate (NIF & PS). This position is in the Laser Systems Engineering and Operations (LSEO) Division, within the Engineering Directorate.
In this role, you will
- Independently deploy, troubleshoot, assemble, and disassemble complex electronic systems, including planning and selecting materials and equipment, interpreting standards, establishing methods, and setting priorities.
- Independently identify, analyze, and provide solutions and alternative approaches to complex problems using advanced creativity and judgment.
- Develop, author, implement, assess, or modify instructional guides for repairing, calibrating, operating, and maintaining equipment and systems.
- Interpret standards and use advanced technical skills to evaluate and recommend methods and priorities for routine electronics maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Provide advanced technical support to engineering tests, physics experiments, and program operations.
- Assist in developing complex test parameters, troubleshooting and testing materials, components, or systems, identifying problems, and providing input on solutions.
- Contribute to complex preliminary design concepts and engineering decision process.
- Prioritize and provide work and technical guidance to others by checking for accuracy, completeness, and function.
- Plan, organize, mentor, and lead projects of limited scope to meet defined objectives and schedules.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
- Associate degree in electronics engineering technology, or equivalent combination of education and related electronics/electrical industrial maintenance experience.
- Substantial experience and advanced skills in electronic troubleshooting and assembly.
- Advanced knowledge of engineering hardware testing processes.
- Broad experience with some aspect of advanced level electronic assembly, troubleshooting, installation, and/or maintenance.
- Experience in safe work and business practices.
- Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
- Effective written, verbal, feedback, and presentation communication skills.
- Ability to lift 25 lbs. in a safe and controlled manner.
- Bachelor's degree in electronics engineering technology, or equivalent combination of education and related electronics/electrical industrial maintenance experience.
- Advanced understanding of electronic technology and experience working on a technical project team and providing technical direction to others.
- Advanced technical skills and in-depth knowledge of engineering principles to solve complex problems.
$52.23 - $63.97 Hourly

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. All DOE Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
