Senior Mechanical Engineer - Active Clearance Required
Full‑time position. Job Code 2: SES.
4 Science & Engineering MTS 4 or Job Code 1: SES.
3 Science & Engineering MTS 3. Active DOE Q or Top Secret clearance required. Pre‑employment drug screening and optional pre‑placement medical examination apply.
- Provide technical expertise in mechanical and electromechanical design.
- Conduct research in structural, thermal, hydraulic, or dynamics modeling of mechanical systems.
- Produce advanced conceptual and detailed designs to support ongoing projects.
- Prepare health and safety documentation aligned with Integrated Safety Management (ISM) and participate in design and management pre‑start reviews.
- Coordinate project interfaces and deployment with internal and external organizations.
- Lead or provide guidance and technical direction to multidisciplinary project teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Set broad project vision and strategy, and influence technical direction for self and others.
- Provide expert capability in highly complex mechanical design and analysis.

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent education and experience.
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical design.
- Significant experience in prototype development and testing, hardware design, and analysis.
- Ability to devise solutions for unique and complex problems.
- Ability to reprioritize and change programmatic direction based on emergent requests.
- Experience managing, overseeing, and delivering multiple projects on budget and schedule.
- Leadership and mentoring skills for junior team members.
- Advanced communication skills; ability to present concepts clearly in both verbal and written form.
4 Level)
- Expertise in highly complex mechanical design and analysis.
- Experience developing creative solutions to highly complex problems and leading corrective actions.
- Strong facilitation, collaboration, and conflict resolution skills; record of team building; proven communication with senior management.
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Advanced knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices.
$175,530 – $267,060 Annually (SES.
3 and SES.

Career Indefinite position open to Lab employees and external candidates. Hybrid work schedule possible.
