Make an impact on the community, LARPD is seeking an experienced and innovative Recreation Manager to oversee programs including aquatics, adult and youth sports, rentals (field, gym, party and picnic.) The ideal candidate has experience in one or all of these areas and desires to expand programming to fit the growing needs of the Livermore Community. Full time, exempt, benefitted (pensioned) role.

Range $63.52-$77.19

SUMMARY

Under limited direction, plans, oversees, and provides administrative, strategic, budgetary, and work‑flow management to the Recreation Department ; analyzes department practices and procedures and makes recommendations for organizational, operational, policy, and procedural improvements; conducts needs analyses, feasibility studies, and evaluation for assigned projects and programs; acts as liaison with various community, public, and regulatory agencies; and performs related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general direction from the Community Services Manager. Exercises supervision over assigned professional, technical, and office support staff, either directly or through subordinate levels of supervision. These positions may include field supervisors, coordinator IIs and coordinators as well as casual staff.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This management classification is responsible for volunteer programs, picnics, special events, parties, camps, in house rec classes, adult and youth sports, pee wee sports and camps, and contract classes. Actively researches and identifies community needs and trends; develops partnerships within the community which include public and private agencies, cities, and school districts. Acts as a liaison between the District and the community.

Responsibilities include performing diverse, specialized, and complex work involving significant accountability and decision-making. The role reports to the Community Services Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recommends and develops goals, objectives, policies, procedures, work standards, and administrative control systems for the assigned department.
  • Participates in and oversees the development and administration of the department budget; monitors revenues; controls and approves expenditures; identifies and recommends resolutions for budgetary issues.
  • Plans, designs, develops, organizes, oversees, and administers multiple departments's programs, projects, systems, procedures, and methods of operation; develops and manages program budgets; determines staffing, equipment, and facility programmatic needs and makes recommendations related thereto.
  • Supervises, trains, motivates, and evaluates assigned personnel; participates in the recruitment and selection of department staff; provides or coordinates staff training as needed; works with employees on performance issues; responds to staff questions and concerns; makes discipline recommendations.
  • Serves as a liaison to employees, public and private organizations, community groups, and other organizations; provides information and assistance to the public regarding the assigned programs and services; receives and responds to complaints and questions relating to assigned area of responsibility; reviews problems and recommends corrective actions.
