General Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Shelter Manager, the Overnight Staff will work the overnight shift for the Domestic Violence Shelter and will monitor the shelter residents to ensure the shelter safety protocols are consistently followed. Assist with shelter operations as directed by supervisor.
General RequirementsBachelor's degree preferred, plus one year's experience. Two-year minimum experience with computers, one year in a non-profit setting; experience working alone, experience working in high stress situations, experience working in a shelter setting is preferred, excellent de-escalation skills, knowledge of violence toward women and children. Completion of Agency Training within 6 months of employment.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIESI. DIRECT SERVICE- A. Work overnight in a shelter setting – monitor resident safety, ensure residents are following curfew protocols. Check on residents once they retire for the day.
- B. Conduct a security check of residents housed at other confidential locations by going to each location.
- C. Provides advocacy, information and referral, and crisis intervention for clients
- D. Responsible for complying with all laws, including elder abuse reporting, CPS reporting, 5150 laws and suicide assessment.
- D. Enforces house rules about safety, cleanliness, curfew.
- E. Serves as back-up for crisis line volunteers and the shelter on a rotating basis and assumes call-forwarding of hotline as needed.
- F. Records all client interactions and writes in daily log regularly to keep staff updated.
- G. Enter client date in the client database
- H. Perform various housekeeping shelter duties such as laundry, filing etc.
- A. Responsible to assist with updating resource information (I & R) and develop and maintain systems that will allow other staff, volunteers and clients to access this information.
- B. Responsible to maintain master binders for all original client related materials.
- C. Responsible for maintaining working relationships with the staff of public and private agencies that provide resources to Tri-Valley Haven clients.
- D. Responds to Tri-Valley Haven's crisis line as needed.
- A. Attend staff and department meetings as needed, attend required trainings.
