Construction Laborer
This role offers the opportunity to work as a construction laborer on a variety of commercial projects, supporting carpentry, electrical, and general construction activities. You will contribute to converting commercial office buildings and warehouses into modern laboratory spaces, assisting skilled tradespeople and helping maintain safe, clean, and efficient job sites.
Responsibilities
- Support commercial carpentry activities, including tasks related to drywall, concrete carpentry, and steel framing under the direction of experienced tradespeople.
- Assist with electrical work as part of a general contractor team that self-performs carpentry and electrical scopes.
- Perform general labor duties such as site preparation, material handling, and moving tools and equipment as needed.
- Carry out job site clean up, including debris removal, sweeping, and maintaining an organized and safe work area throughout the project.
- Use hand tools and basic construction tools safely and correctly to support daily construction operations.
- Help with the conversion of commercial office buildings and warehouses into laboratory spaces by completing assigned construction tasks.
- Collaborate with carpenters, electricians, and other team members to ensure work is completed efficiently and to quality standards.
- Follow all safety guidelines and instructions on site to protect yourself, your team, and the facility.
- Adapt to different tasks and project needs, providing reliable support across carpentry, general labor, clean up, and other construction-related activities.
Essential Skills
- Experience in construction labor, with the ability to perform physical tasks on active job sites.
- Hands-on experience using construction hand tools safely and effectively.
- Experience in commercial carpentry, including exposure to tasks such as framing, drywall, or concrete work.
- Ability to perform general labor duties, including clean up, material handling, and assisting skilled trades.
- Willingness and capability to support basic electrical work within a commercial construction setting.
- Reliability and strong work ethic, with the ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience as a commercial carpentry lead or in a more advanced carpentry role is a plus.
- Knowledge of drywall installation and finishing is beneficial.
- Experience with concrete carpentry, including forming and placing concrete, is an advantage.
- Familiarity with steel frame construction in commercial environments is preferred.
- Exposure to laboratory construction projects or conversions of commercial spaces into lab facilities is a plus.
- Ability to work across different levels of responsibility, from entry-level labor to more skilled carpentry or electrical support.

Work Environment
This role is based on active construction sites in Emeryville, CA and potentially other Bay Area locations. You will work in commercial office buildings and warehouses that are being converted into laboratory spaces, using standard construction hand tools and equipment in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. The work involves indoor and semi-outdoor conditions typical of commercial construction, with a focus on safety and teamwork.
Work hours follow standard construction schedules and may vary by project, with the expectation of being on-site and ready to perform physically demanding tasks throughout the day. Appropriate construction attire and personal protective equipment are required to maintain safety and professionalism on the job site.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Livermore, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
