Ravalli Electric Cooperative seeks a Staking Engineer to design, stake, and coordinate electric distribution projects that support safe, reliable member service. The role partners with members, crews, contractors, and internal teams on new services, upgrades, relocations, and system improvements while maintaining positive member interactions and meeting Cooperative standards, safety requirements, and timelines.
Key Responsibilities- Design and stake overhead and underground distribution projects for new services, upgrades, relocations, and system improvements.
- Prepare staking sheets, material lists, estimates, and project records.
- Conduct field visits and site assessments to support accurate, construction-ready designs.
- Coordinate with members, landowners, contractors, crews, and internal teams on service needs, right-of-way, permits, costs, and schedules while maintaining positive interactions.
- Provide support during power outages, including after-hours response.
- Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent utility experience will be considered. Staking certification is beneficial.
- Experience in electric utility distribution design, staking, construction, system operations, or related field work.
- Working knowledge of overhead and underground distribution systems, staking practices, and applicable safety standards.
- Experience with GIS, mapping, staking, and Microsoft Office software, with the ability to prepare staking sheets, estimates, and project records accurately; familiarity with NISC software is a plus.
- Ability to read maps, plats, drawings, and field conditions and apply sound judgment to project planning, right-of-way, permits, and project coordination.
- Strong communication, organization, problem‑solving, and positive member service skills.
- Valid Montana driver’s license, insurable driving record, and ability to travel and work outdoors in varying conditions.
- Walk outdoors year‑round in varied terrain and weather.
- Move repeatedly between sitting and standing.
- Lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Drive up to 10 hours occasionally and travel by air when needed.
