Tax Manager

Location:

Livingston, NJ

Our client is seeking a Tax Manager to oversee complex tax engagements, support clients with strategic tax planning, and guide a developing team of tax professionals. This role suits someone who enjoys tackling challenging tax matters, cultivating strong client relationships, and contributing to a collaborative, fast‑paced public accounting environment. In this position, you will manage compliance processes, review tax filings, and provide high‑value consulting services to a diverse client group.

Key Responsibilities
  • Federal and state filings — Manage and review tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and other types of entities.

  • Engagement leadership — Lead tax engagements while ensuring adherence to professional standards, deadlines, and budget expectations.

  • Tax planning strategies — Develop and implement tax planning approaches that improve client tax positions.

  • Regulatory updates — Stay informed on tax law changes and communicate relevant updates to leadership and staff.

  • Team supervision — Supervise and review work completed by staff accountants, senior team members, and managers.

  • Client relationship management — Strengthen client relationships through proactive communication and high‑level consulting.

  • Mentorship and development — Mentor and develop team members through coaching, project leadership, and performance evaluations.

  • Tax research — Conduct tax research and advise clients on how regulations and legislative changes may affect them.

  • Workflow coordination — Coordinate engagement schedules and maintain efficient workflow across teams.

  • Risk identification — Identify risks and opportunities for clients and provide clear recommendations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Taxation, Finance, Business, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years overseeing individual and corporate tax compliance.

  • Experience in a senior tax or accounting role within public accounting.

  • Strong communication skills and comfort in client‑facing interactions.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a team‑oriented environment.

  • Active CPA license required.

  • Master’s degree in Taxation preferred.
