Job Summary:
The position will cross cover the Pediatric Health Center and the OBGYN Clinic
* Care of pediatric patients, infants to 18 years
* Care of obstetrics and gynecological patients
Organize and administers individualized age-specific professional patient care to female patients in an outpatient setting of the hospital in support of medical care. Supports the philosophy, objectives and the mission and vision of Saint Barnabas Medical Center and the Department of Nursing. Practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Standards of Practice, Code of Ethics for Nurses, Department of Health Regulations, JCAHO requirements and other regulatory agencies.
Maintains the standards of nursing care as established. Participates in patient teaching and discharge planning. Participates in unit Performance Improvement evaluation activities. Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age-specific needs and provide age-specific treatment and care.
Qualifications:
Required:
* Graduate from an accredited school or university
* Minimum 2 years' experience in Pediatrics/ OBGYN patient care
* Must have experience of triaging, patient intake, vaccine administration, medication and patient education, patient registration/scheduling as needed
* Must be flexible and willing to learn
* Successful completion of all Orientation Programs
Preferred:
* Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Certifications and Licenses
Required:
* Current Registered Nurse License in the state of New Jersey
* Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association
Scheduling Requirements:
* Per Diem
* Hours of operation:
Monday - Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm
* Based on clinics needs and weekend coverage as needed
* Must be available to cover 2-3 shifts/month as needed
Essential Functions:
The Practice Nurse RN complies with the Medication Reconciliation policy. Complies with unit and departmental scheduling guidelines. Delegates and prioritizes work assignments according to the individual associate's competence and patient care needs. Evaluates effectiveness, interventions and revises plan of care accordingly. Implements the policies of the hospital and Nursing Department. Performs assessment and reassessment of patients according to applicable department standards and identified tools.
Performs interventions in accordance with current policy and procedure, safety guidelines and infection control principles. Provides patient/family education according to the same documents. Sets goals and formulates appropriate multidisciplinary interventions to meet these goals. Transmits pertinent patient information to appropriate individuals (i.e., MD, supervisor, discharge planner, etc.) Uses an understanding of the principles of acute and chronic pain management to assess each patient's individual needs and provide appropriate and specific treatment and care.
The Practice Nurse RN uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to assess each patient's age-specific needs and provide age-specific treatment and care. Utilizes the nursing process with a multidisciplinary approach in the delivery of patient care. Provides a compassionate and supportive environment with prompt and consistent service. Adheres to patient rights: provides for the confidential treatment of all communications and records.
Demonstrates professionalism with families, visitors, physicians, co-workers and supervisors. Listens and communicates effectively.
