Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for Palliative Care

Provide high-touch palliative care for people facing serious illness — with structured mentorship, physician/APP backup, and a team that does not leave you to figure it out alone.

Base salary $130,000–$160,000/year plus annual performance bonus up to 12.5%. Primarily a Monday–Friday schedule, 28 paid time off days in year one, a $0/month employee-only medical option, malpractice coverage, license/DEA support, CME, and tuition support.

Setting:
License:
Inpatient – Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston NJ. New Jersey NP or PA license required.

About Us and the Role:

NJ Palliative Care Solutions is on a mission to deliver palliative care without walls across New Jersey, partnering with leading health systems including RWJBarnabas Health. We are hiring a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide hospital-based palliative care at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center for patients living with serious illness. Palliative care experience is required for this inpatient role.

Why You'll Want This Role:
  • A strong palliative program behind you: experienced specialists, clinical backup, and data-guided coaching.
  • A real interdisciplinary team: physicians, APPs, social work, care coordination, and operational support.
  • Clear workflows and quality expectations — not a sink-or-swim field role.
  • Primarily a Monday–Friday schedule with flexibility to swap workdays.
  • 28 PTO days in year one and a $0/month employee-only medical option.
  • Academic pathways, CME up to $1,000/year, and tuition reimbursement up to $2,000.
What You'll Do:
  • Perform at the top of your license, performing best practice, holistic, patient-centered, evidence-based interdisciplinary palliative medicine.
  • Provide palliative care consultations and follow-up visits across the hospital continuum – from high-acuity ED and ICU encounters to ongoing management on medical, surgical, and specialty units.
  • Manage complex symptoms for patients with advanced illness and chronic disease.
  • Lead goals-of-care and advance care planning conversations with patients and families, coordinating with partner SNFs and/or hospices if and when appropriate.
  • Partner with the interdisciplinary team and hospital teams, fully integrating into hospital workflows and shaping the palliative medicine practice.
  • Complete timely documentation aligned with clinical, billing, and quality standards.
  • Spend as much time on discharge planning as on intake, managing transitions from inpatient to the patient's next setting, considering each patient's longitudinal preference and best interests.
What You Bring:
  • Active New Jersey Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license and national board certification.
  • DEA + CDS registration, or ability to obtain by start date.
  • 2+ years of palliative care experience required.
  • Palliative care certification (e.g., ACHPN / CHPN) preferred.
  • Strong communication, clinical judgment, compassion, and comfort working on interdisciplinary teams.
Compensation & Total Rewards:
  • Competitive base salary: $130,000–$160,000/year.
  • Annual performance bonus up to 12.5% of base salary, rewarding both productivity (RVUs) and quality of care.
  • 28 days of paid time off your first year, growing to 33 days at 2 years, in one flexible bank.
  • Malpractice & professional liability ($1M / $3M), license & DEA renewals, up to $1,000/year CME, up to $2,000 tuition reimbursement.
  • Medical via Cigna PPO, including a $0/month employee-only option, plus dental, vision, and an HSA.
  • Short- and long-term disability, voluntary life & AD&D, and accident / critical-illness / hospital coverage.
  • 401(k) retirement plan, plus pre-tax FSA, dependent-care FSA, HSA, and commuter benefits.
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Program, identity-theft protection, legal plan, pet benefits, and member discounts.
