Job Summary
- The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is responsible for evaluating patients, developing and implementing treatment plans, and providing therapeutic interventions for individuals with communication, cognitive-linguistic, and swallowing disorders
- The SLP maintains accurate and timely documentation, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, and supports patient and family education to promote optimal functional independence and patient-centered outcomes
Essential Functions
- Conduct evaluations and assessments appropriate to age and diagnosis, including developmental, cognitive, speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders
- Develop individualized treatment plans and measurable goals in collaboration with the patient, caregivers, and interdisciplinary team
- Implement evidence-based therapeutic interventions in a timely and appropriate manner
- Reassess patient condition and update treatment goals and plans as needed
- Provide patient and family education and counseling related to speech-language and swallowing needs
- Accurately document treatment sessions, assessments, progress, and discharge plans
- Coordinate care with physicians, nurses, therapists, and support staff to ensure consistent and effective rehabilitation plans
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, care planning, and quality improvement initiatives
- Supervise clinical fellows, students, and other support personnel as applicable
- Ensure compliance with professional standards, regulatory requirements, and facility policies
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to speech, language, and swallowing
- Proficient in the use of assessment tools, therapy materials, and documentation systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to function independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
- Familiarity with ASHA and state practice standards
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology required
- Completion of a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) required
Licenses/Certifications
- Current licensure to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist in applicable state
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within time frame required by facility policy
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from ASHA preferred
Experience
- One (1) year of experience in a rehabilitation or acute care setting preferred
