The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in managing day-to-day field operations on midstream pipeline construction projects. This role helps lead crews, coordinate equipment and resources, track production, enforce safety and quality standards, and ensure work progresses according to schedule. The Assistant Superintendent acts as a bridge between field personnel, subcontractors, inspectors, and project management.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assists the Superintendent in the oversight of all pipeline construction activities including:
    • Stringing
    • Bending
    • Welding
    • Tie-ins
    • Coating
    • Lowering-in
    • Backfill
    • Hydrotest preparation
  • Helps direct foremen, operators, welders, labor crews, subcontractors, and specialty crews.
  • Ensures work is completed efficiently, safely and to project specifications.
  • Supports the creations of daily and weekly work plans.
  • Identifies manpower, equipment and material needs for upcoming tasks.
  • Ensures crews understand the daily goals and workflow expectations.
  • Adjusts schedules and crew allocation as conditions change.
  • Promotes a safe work environment by reinforcing company and OSHA safety policies.
  • Participates in JSAs, toolbox talks, and hazard assessments.
  • Ensures all safety procedures are followed during excavation, welding, rigging, lifting, and confined space operations.
  • Addresses unsafe behavior or conditions immediately and escalate when required.
  • Helps monitor workmanship and ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Supports QA/QC personnel by facilitating inspections, weld maps, coating inspections, and test procedures.
  • Ensures proper pipe handling, alignment, trench prep, and coating protection.
  • Assists in resolving quality issues before they cause rework or delays.
  • Coordinates equipment movement, fueling, maintenance, and utilization.
  • Ensures operators have the correct machines and tools for assigned tasks.
  • Tracks equipment hours and support logistics planning with the Superintendent.
  • Maintains communication between field crews, foremen, inspectors, and the superintendent.
  • Provides daily updates on progress, issues, production, delays, and resource needs.
  • Supports the Superintendent in client meetings and field walkthroughs.
  • Acts as the superintendent’s representative when they are unavailable.
  • Identifies and troubleshoot issues such as:
    • Access problems
    • Equipment conflicts
    • Pipe alignment challenges
    • Coating damage
    • Safety concerns
    • Production bottlenecks
  • Recommends solutions and implement adjustments quickly.
  • Assists in completing daily reports, timesheets, equipment logs, and production data.
  • Helps track material quantities, deliveries, and usage.
  • Maintains organized records for inspections, safety, and schedule tracking.
  • Helps manage subcontractors performing clearing, boring, testing, padding, trucking, or environmental work.
  • Ensures subcontractors follow site safety, quality, and productivity expectations.
  • Verifies their work aligns with project requirements and timelines.
  • Supports training and mentoring of Foremen, operators, and crew leads.
  • Identifies personnel strengths and weaknesses to optimize performance.
  • Assists the superintendent in building a strong, cohesive team.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Leads and directs employees as assigned.
Education And/Or Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5 years of midstream pipeline experience with leadership roles preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Strong understanding of pipeline construction phases and sequencing.
  • Ability to read alignment sheets, blueprints, isometrics, and construction drawings.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA standards, pipeline safety rules, and quality requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple crews and work in fast-paced, demanding conditions.
