Job Summary

General:
The role and mission of LSCO places major emphasis upon the teaching component. Therefore, the instructional faculty position at LSCO has an emphasis on teaching, scholarship, and service. The apportionment of responsibilities may be modified for a specific position and for a specific semester due to classes not making or other variables which affect teaching assignments. Faculty will be expected to teach assigned classes according to approved course syllabi or instructional dean.

Job Summary:

The Full Time Faculty member's responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing instruction for students enrolled in core curriculum classes at the TSUS Polk County Center. This individual attends workshops, seminars, and conferences to upgrade teaching skills; and assists in the development of curriculum, as needed. Each faculty member will schedule office hours which will include the normal working hours (8:00 - 5:00), not excluding evening hours when classes are in session.

During these office hours, the faculty member will be available to counsel students and will be available for departmental, divisional, and institutional obligations. We are seeking an individual who is credentialed to teach one or more of the following:
Math, American History, Government/Political Science, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Creative Arts, Life and Physical Sciences, Communication, Language, Philosophy & Culture

Duties/Responsibilities

Teaching:

  • Classroom preparation, supervision, and instruction, in face-to-face, online, or hybrid venues, as assigned by the College Administration.
  • Field-based or off-campus instruction.
  • Laboratory design, preparation, instruction, supervision, and other associated responsibilities.
  • Measurement of student performance including the preparation, administration, grading, and evaluation of tests, papers, examinations, and research projects, etc., reporting grades, and participation in the assessment of course and program outcomes.
  • Conduct assessment and evaluation of Student Learning Outcomes for each course, department or program outcomes, and general education student learning outcomes as appropriate.
  • Conferences with, and academic advisement of students including assistance with degree plans, registration, and course assistance.
  • Coordination and supervision of student activities directly related to the academic program.
  • Experiments in teaching methods and teaching-oriented research, including creation of effective learning environments.
  • Writing letters of recommendation for students.
  • Selection and procurement of books, films, and other materials for classroom, library, learning center, or laboratory use.
  • Periodic evaluation of library holdings and recommendations of books and other materials to be ordered by the library or learning center.
  • Development of new courses and programs of study, including web-based and other technology-based instruction.
  • Actively participate in curriculum development, including the establishment of program and student learning outcomes, and the reporting of learning outcomes results as required by departmental procedures.
  • Professional Development and Pedagogy Advancement:

  • On-going reading and research to maintain proficiency and growth in one's field of professional specialization.
  • Attend professional development opportunities regularly, as required by College Administration.
  • Holding membership or office in professional associations.
  • Attendance and participation in meetings, conferences, and conventions of professional associations.
  • Service:

  • Support student success by assisting with and participating in commencement, PTK inductions, and other related ceremonies.
  • Service on institutional and affiliated committees.
  • Service on professional association committees.
  • Participation in college-wide assessment activities.
  • Participation in institutionally sponsored activities to recruit students.
  • Interviewing and screening candidates for faculty and staff appointments.
  • Coordination, advisement, and supervision of student organizations or student activities not directly related to the academic program.
  • Advisement and counseling of students.
  • Participation in sponsored community service or community projects.
  • Other:
    Other duties as assigned by College Administration

    Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Possess an earned master's degree in teaching discipline OR a master's degree in any subject with at least 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline
    • Knowledge of teaching methodologies/pedagogical strategies
    • Possess good time management skills

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience teaching in higher education is preferred
    • Related field and/or industry certifications, if applicable
