Electrical Engineer

This role focuses on designing and developing low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution systems and equipment for complex electrical applications, including data centers. You will create detailed engineering documentation, perform advanced electrical calculations, and support the design of switch gear, switchboards, motor control centers (MCCs), transformers, generators, and related electrical systems. You will ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards and customer requirements while helping to build and strengthen the internal engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution systems and equipment for industrial and commercial applications, including data centers.
  • Create and review single-line diagrams to define overall power distribution architecture and system topology.
  • Prepare and review schematic and wiring diagrams to ensure accurate interconnections and clear documentation for installation and maintenance.
  • Develop detailed panel layouts, including component arrangement, clearances, and accessibility for switch gear, switchboards, and MCCs.
  • Generate and maintain accurate equipment specifications, ensuring that selected components meet project, customer, and code requirements.
  • Create comprehensive Bills of Material (BOMs) for power distribution equipment, panels, and electrical packages, including all major and ancillary components.
  • Perform electrical calculations such as load flow analysis, short-circuit calculations, and voltage drop calculations to validate system performance and reliability.
  • Conduct arc flash studies and protective device coordination to enhance system safety and ensure proper operation of protective devices.
  • Support the design and integration of switch gear, switchboards, MCCs, transformers, generators, and related electrical systems into complete power distribution solutions.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable NEC, IEEE, NEMA, UL, ANSI, and customer standards and requirements.
  • Develop and review electrical packages, including drawings, calculations, and documentation required for fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
  • Design and document panel layouts, power splices, main breakers, and transformer connections as part of complete power distribution systems.
  • Collaborate with shop personnel and the existing engineering team to support fabrication, assembly, and testing of electrical equipment.
  • Assist in bringing previously outsourced engineering work back in-house by contributing to processes, standards, and best practices.
  • Use AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical to produce accurate, detailed drawings and to update documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Troubleshoot design issues and provide technical support during manufacturing and installation to ensure systems meet design intent.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of design methods, tools, and documentation to increase efficiency and quality within the engineering team.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • 5+ years of electrical engineering experience.
  • 3+ years of experience specifically in power distribution system design.
  • Proven experience designing low-voltage and medium-voltage power distribution systems.
  • Hands-on experience creating and reviewing single-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, and wiring diagrams.
  • Proficiency in developing panel layouts for switch gear, switchboards, MCCs, and related equipment.
  • Experience generating and managing Bills of Material (BOMs) for electrical projects.
  • Ability to perform load flow analysis, short-circuit calculations, and voltage drop calculations.
  • Experience conducting arc flash studies and performing protective device coordination.
  • Knowledge and practical application of NEC, IEEE, NEMA, UL, and ANSI standards in electrical design.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for electrical design and documentation.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical for creating and managing electrical schematics and panel drawings.
  • Demonstrated experience with power distribution equipment such as switch gear, switchboards, MCCs, transformers, generators, and main…
