Pay Rate

$41 per hour with an additional $2 per hour night shift differential. Bonus: $5,000 for full‑time positions.

Schedule

12‑hour shifts: day 6:00am–6:00pm and night 6:00pm–6:00am.

About the Facility

Operated by Management & Training Corporation, the IAH Detention Facility in Livingston, Texas, offers a unique and rewarding environment for dedicated nurses. Your expertise will directly impact the well‑being of underserved individuals in a dynamic setting.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Attend sick call with physicians and prepare examining rooms and equipment.
  • Call physicians for medication, treatment orders, and other emergencies.
  • Operate pill call, administer medication, and accurately document treatment.
  • Examine and assess detainees with illnesses or injuries; conferring with physicians for referrals to the emergency room as required.
  • Maintain a clean work area and use appropriate sanitation methods.
  • Practice basic cost containment and utilization management for detainee care and facility operations.
  • Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records, and observe HIPAA rules.
  • Review medical files to ensure all services are documented.
  • Monitor potential catastrophic illnesses and comply with pharmacy laws, especially regarding controlled substances.
  • Observe and record detainee behavior, assess and triage with appropriate documentation.
  • Inspect medical unit for contraband; securely store or dispose of supplies and equipment.
  • Control medication, syringes, and other medical supplies.
  • Perform on‑call work as required.
  • Provide health counseling and education on an individual or group basis as required.
  • Prepare and maintain narrative, statistical, summary, and operational records, reports, and logs.
  • Assist corporate counsel with responses to detainee lawsuits.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and promote communication and flow of relevant information in the medical unit.
  • Prepare and disseminate safety and accident reports; take appropriate action in serious or unusual incidents and emergencies.
  • Properly chart medical care.
  • Initiate and complete investigations and inquiries, gathering information and evidence, interviewing and obtaining statements, and determining when probable cause exists to recommend disciplinary action.
  • Perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters, including administering basic emergency medical aid, physically removing people from danger, and securing and evacuating people from confined areas.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Degree in nursing.
  • Current, valid nursing license for the state of Texas or a compact state.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Work within Texas State Board of Nursing scope of practice.
  • Valid driver’s license in the state of Texas with an acceptable driving record (unless waived by management).
