Livonia Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified school social worker. The school social worker will help students address and resolve personal, emotional, and social problems that interfere with their ability to fully benefit from education. Responsibilities include evaluation, consultation, and other services to students from pre‑school through post‑secondary levels.
DISTRICT OVERVIEWLivonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,900 staff members and serves about 13,300 students pre‑K to post‑secondary. The district has 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, and several specialty centers. Its annual budget is $175 million, with state funding of $9,608 per pupil.

- Provide school social work services to any student to identify and address systemic barriers to learning.
- Directly intervene during crises (e.g., suicidal assessments, traffic fatalities) to ensure safety and reduce distress.
- Respond to threatening behaviors; investigate underlying causes and recommend interventions to lower violence risk.
- Contribute to initial problem identification and develop intervention efforts as part of problem‑solving teams.
- Conduct comprehensive evaluations to identify strengths, weaknesses, and appropriate accommodation plans (504) or special education eligibility.
- Gather information (e.g., Functional Behavior Assessment) to determine the need for behavior intervention plans and related interventions.
- Meet with colleagues to develop, implement, monitor, and evaluate classroom‑based approaches for students with academic, emotional, behavioral, social, or physical difficulties.
- Provide professional development on specific disabilities and evidence‑based strategies.
- Present annual review of abuse/neglect and suicidal policy procedures and serve as a resource on these subjects.
- Offer individual or group counseling services to students.
- Assist parents in crisis, connect them to community resources, and provide collaborative consultation on child development and educational strategies.
- Facilitate and coordinate wrap‑around educational and mental health services with community agencies.
- Follow all District guidelines, protocols, and procedures.
- Execute other duties as assigned by the building administrator.
The work year, salary, and fringe benefits will be consistent with the current agreement between the Board of Education and the Livonia Education Association.
