POSITION
This position supervises and oversees a middle school robotics team within the larger District-wide Robotics Program, including participating in an FTC Robotics Competition season that typically runs between September and January each school year, along with some pre/post season recruiting events. Specific tasks range from processing applications, securing permission slips, supervising and guiding the work of student participants during robot construction and competition, coordinating work with business mentors, establishing and working within a budget, directing priorities, adhering to safety rules and expectations, and communicating with all stakeholders.
Build sessions, programming, and training, etc., typically takes place during evening and some weekend team sessions, and participation in a variety of weekend competitions is expected.
Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,800 staff members, serving approximately 14,100 students pre‑K post secondary. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center and 1 vocational and transition center in the School District. The annual budget for Livonia Public Schools is $164 million, with a state funding of $10,000 per pupil.
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS
- First Robotics experience preferred, but not required.
- Strong communication & organizational skills.
- Evidence of ability to establish positive working relationships with all stakeholders.
- Create a welcoming and positive Robotics team climate and culture.
- Exhibit a commitment to the District's Shared Vision and Collective Commitments.
- Nurture a sense of ownership among team members for their team's robot project.
- Process student applications and permission slips, supervise and coordinate the work of business mentors, establish and work within a budget.
- Coordinate with adult team mentors/parent volunteers, students, and program colleagues to successfully complete team robot, prepare for competition, and compete in area tournaments.
- Supervise students during off‑site trips, competitions, etc.
- Encourage students to think independently and to express original ideas.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide a safe and productive team environment.
- Follow all First Robotics protocols, as well as all safety rules and guidelines.
- Communicate with students, parents, program colleagues, and school administrators on team progress.
- Execute other duties and assume other responsibilities as assigned.
Compensation will be consistent with Schedule B of the current agreement between the Board of Education and the Livonia Education Association. The Final date to receive applications is minimally 4:00 pm on February 27, 2026. This position will remain open until filled.
