Middle School SAP

Livonia Public Schools is seeking a highly qualified middle school SAP who is responsible for a variety of duties in supporting student academic and social/emotional needs. The SAP will help students work through problems that impede learning and assist them in making educational, occupational, and life plans that hold promise for their future fulfillment as mature and responsible individuals.

The district employs approximately 1,800 staff members, serving approximately 13,100 students pre-K post secondary. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center and 1 vocational and transition center in the School District. The annual budget for Livonia Public Schools is $180 million, with a state funding of $10,000 per pupil.

Minimum Qualifications

The following is a list of minimum qualifications for this position, any one of which may be waived by the Superintendent in exercising the prerogative to determine appropriate qualifications:

  • Master's degree in counseling or student support-related field preferred
  • Evidence of successful experience working with middle school aged students is preferred
  • Successful experience working collaboratively with others
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated successful experience in providing research-based interventions in the affective and academic domains for struggling students
  • Experience in the administration and interpretation of formal and informal assessments
  • A passionate commitment to improving learning for all students
  • Demonstrated positive interpersonal relationships
Major Functions and Responsibilities

Exhibits a commitment to the District's Shared Vision and Collective Commitments Creates a welcoming and positive climate and culture Provides academic, behavioral, health and social-emotional support and interventions for students Actively participates in or leads teams established to review individual student performance and behavior Monitors student academic and behavioral progress in collaboration with school staff Contributes to positive home/school relationships by serving as a resource to teachers, students, and parents Plans, coordinates, and implements student intervention services in conjunction with classroom teacher(s), counseling staff, and school administration Contributes to initial "problem identification" or the likely nature of a student, classroom, or school problem in order to help develop intervention efforts as part of a problem-solving team Serves as a resource regarding drug and alcohol abuse and addiction, including fostering connections with outside agencies and programs Provides support with the implementation and data analysis of universal screeners, student assessments, and progress monitoring data Works collaboratively with Student Services support staff to provide appropriate interventions and data collection of student achievement and behavior Collects and analyzes data based on student performance and plans interventions for struggling students Attends professional training sessions on identified topics to be used with students Executes other duties assumes other responsibilities as assigned by building administrator

The work year, salary, and fringe benefits will be consistent with the current agreement between the Board of Education and the Livonia Education Association. This position will remain open minimally through July 8, 2026 for consideration of employment for the 26-27 school year.
