Robotics Coordinator

Livonia Public Schools District Robotics Coordinator provides leadership, coordination, and strategic development of the district's robotics programs. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and expanding robotics opportunities across all grade levels while building strong community partnerships, securing sponsor ships, supporting coaches and teachers, and ensuring equitable student access to high-quality robotics learning experiences. The Robotics Coordinator serves as the district liaison between schools, community organizations, higher education institutions, industry partners, and robotics competition organizations to develop a sustainable and innovative K-12 robotics ecosystem.

Livonia Public Schools employs approximately 1,800 staff members, serving approximately 13,100 students pre-K post secondary. There are 15 elementary schools, 3 middle schools, 3 high schools, 1 career technical center, 1 early childhood center and 1 vocational and transition center in the School District. The annual budget for Livonia Public Schools is $180 million, with a state funding of $10,000 per pupil.

Minimum Qualifications

Extensive knowledge of robotics education programs and competitions. Strong project management and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to recruit sponsors and cultivate community partnerships. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Strong budgeting and resource management skills. Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, administrators, parents, business leaders, and community organizations. Knowledge of grant writing and fundraising practices preferred.

Technical proficiency with robotics platforms, programming languages, and engineering tools.

Major Functions and Responsibilities

Program Leadership and Development

  • Coordinate robotics programming from elementary through high school levels.
  • Oversee the growth and sustainability of robotics clubs and competitive teams.
  • Analyze participation, achievement, and program effectiveness data to guide decision-making and program improvements.

Competitive Robotics Programs

  • Coordinate and support district participation in robotics competitions, including but not limited to FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC), and FIRST LEGO League (FLL).
  • Coordinate district robotics showcases, exhibitions, scrimmages, and tournaments.
  • Ensure compliance with competition rules, safety regulations, and district policies.
  • Support student leadership development and competitive excellence.

Staff Support and Professional Development

  • Recruit, train, and support robotics coaches, mentors, and volunteers.
  • Provide technical assistance, mentoring, and coaching to staff.
  • Develop resources and best practices for robotics implementation across grade levels.

Sponsor Recruitment and Fund Development

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sponsorship strategy to support district robotics initiatives.
  • Identify, recruit, cultivate, and maintain relationships with corporate sponsors, foundations, businesses, and community organizations.
  • Secure financial support, grants, equipment donations, in-kind contributions, and volunteer resources.
  • Collaborate with district leadership and educational foundations to expand funding opportunities.
  • Steward sponsor relationships through ongoing communication and recognition efforts.

Community Partnerships and External Relations

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local businesses, manufacturers, technology companies, higher education institutions, workforce development agencies, and nonprofit organizations.
  • Serve as the primary district contact for robotics-related partnerships and collaborations.
  • Promote district robotics programs through community outreach and public engagement activities.
  • Represent the district at local, regional, state, and national robotics events.

Budget and Resource Management

  • Oversee purchasing, inventory, maintenance, and replacement of robotics equipment and materials.
  • Coordinate allocation of resources among robotics programs.
  • Monitor expenditures and ensure fiscal accountability.

Student Engagement and Equity

  • Promote equitable access and participation for students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Develop initiatives that increase participation among underrepresented student groups.
  • Support inclusive team-building practices and positive student experiences.
  • Monitor enrollment and participation trends to ensure broad student engagement.

Event Planning and Operations

  • Plan and coordinate district robotics competitions, showcases, workshops, and community events.
  • Coordinate transportation, facilities, volunteers, safety procedures, and logistics.
  • Recruit and manage volunteers, judges, mentors, and event staff.
  • Promote events through district communication channels and community outreach.

Safety and Compliance
