Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineer
We are a high-impact Quality team where your expertise in GD&T and inspection planning directly ensures world-class manufacturing excellence across Delta’s operations.
Most importantly, you’ll work on innovative products that help keep people safe in the air.
OVERVIEWWith over 40 years of stability and growth,Delta Precision Components LLC and its’ divisions of Delta Gear and Delta Research is a manufacturer of advanced gears and machined elements for the automotive, defense and aerospace industry.
JOB SUMMARYThe Quality Engineer is a member of the Quality function that supports all Delta operations, Delta Gear LLC and Delta Research LLC. The role is responsible for interpreting engineering drawings and utilizing High QA (or equivalent GD&T / balloning software) to systematically balloon engineering drawings, extract all dimensional and functional requirements, and develop comprehensive inspection check sheets and First Article Inspection (FAI) packages.
This role works directly from current control plans and operation sketches (op sketches) to ensure all in-process and final inspection criteria are accurately captured, traceable, and audit-ready.
- Use High QA software to balloon engineering drawings, assigning sequential balloon numbers to all dimensional, geometric, and functional requirements.
- Extract and catalog all characteristic data including nominal values, tolerances, datums, surface finish, and special/critical characteristics (SC/CC).
- Interpret and apply GD&T callouts (ASME Y14.5) accurately during the ballooning process.
- Coordinate with Design Engineering and Manufacturing to resolve drawing ambiguities or missing information prior to check sheet creation.
- Maintain and revise ballooned drawings in response to engineering change orders (ECOs) or print revisions.
- Develop detailed inspection check sheets (First Article, In-Process, and Final Inspection) directly linked to ballooned drawings and current control plans.
- Align check sheets to operation sketches (op sketches) to ensure each manufacturing step has corresponding inspection verification criteria.
- Define and document measurement methods, gauging requirements, sample sizes, and acceptance criteria for each characteristic.
- Incorporate customer-specific requirements, PPAP documentation standards, and AIAG/VDA reference manuals into check sheet design as applicable.
- Ensure check sheets are formatted for usability on the manufacturing floor and compliant with internal quality management system (QMS) procedures.
- Reference current-revision control plans as the primary source for defining inspection frequency, measurement systems, and reaction plans.
- Collaborate with Process Engineers and Manufacturing Engineers to validate that check sheets accurately reflect current manufacturing processes.
- Participate in control plan reviews and updates; ensure changes are reflected downstream in all check sheet documentation.
- Support PFMEA review (when required) and ensure all high-risk characteristics (RPNI-ranked) are adequately covered in the check sheet matrix.
- Maintain a controlled library of ballooned drawings and check sheets within the document management system (DMS / QMS).
- Support PPAP submission preparation, including Dimensional Results (Section
6) and Appearance Approval Report as required. - Participate in quality audits (internal, customer, third-party) and provide documentation support as needed.
- Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities in the ballooning and check sheet development process to reduce cycle time and error rates.
- Demonstrate Company Values -- Safety, Quality, Accountability, Teamwork, Continuous Improvement and Respect.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering with course of study in Manufacturing Technology or Mechanical Engineering required. May consider five (5) directly relevant years of experience in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree.
- Minimum two (2) years hands‑on experience ballooning engineering drawings in a manufacturing quality environment.
- Quality experience in automotive (IATF 16949) and/or aerospace (AS9100).
- Experience with CMM programming or interpretation of CMM…
