Job Summary:
We are seeking a CAD Designer III to support gas distribution system design projects. This role is responsible for designing gas distribution facilities for customer relocations, capacity upgrades, and reliability improvement projects. The ideal candidate will have experience with CAD software, utility design, and engineering documentation while collaborating with engineers and project teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design gas distribution systems for relocation, capacity, and reliability projects.
- Prepare engineering drawings using Bentley Open Plant or Micro Station.
- Collaborate with engineers throughout the project design process.
- Track project progress using spreadsheets and databases.
- Create work orders, manage project documentation, and order materials in SAP.
- Perform field visits to collect measurements and field notes, including work in remote or uneven terrain.
- Ensure designs comply with company standards and safety requirements.
- Support storm restoration and emergency response activities, including on‑call rotations and occasional overnight travel.
Required Skills:
- Experience with Micro Station, Bentley Open Plant, or similar CAD software.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver's license.
- Willingness to travel to field locations and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to participate in emergency restoration efforts and on‑call rotations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the electric or gas utility industry.
- Experience with SAP.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Creo, CATIA, Solid Works, or NX.
- Associate degree (2-year) in Engineering Technology, CAD, Drafting, or another scientific/technical discipline (preferred but not required). Equivalent technical education, military training, apprenticeship, or trade school experience will also be considered.
Preferred Experience:
- Gas or electric distribution design.
- Utility engineering support.
- Engineering drawing preparation and project documentation.
- Material ordering and project tracking.
- Field data collection and utility infrastructure design.
