Senior Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist
The Senior Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for leading and managing environmental compliance programs with a strong focus on battery management, stormwater compliance, hazardous waste and materials handling, and regulatory adherence. This role ensures the organization maintains full compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations while promoting sustainable and safe operational practices. The position requires advanced technical knowledge, regulatory expertise, and the ability to independently manage complex environmental programs.
This position is in Livonia, MI. As a Senior EHS Specialist, you will:
To be considered a Senior EHS Specialist, you will need:
- High school diploma
- 8 years of environmental compliance experience in manufacturing, industrial, energy, recycling, or related environments.
- Strong experience managing battery programs, hazardous waste, and stormwater compliance.
- Experience interacting with regulatory agencies and managing inspections.
- Expert-level knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations and industry best practices. In-depth knowledge of RCRA, CWA, CAA, and state environmental regulations.
- Strong understanding of hazardous waste characterization and universal waste rules.
- Experience with SWPPP and NPDES permit compliance.
- Proven experience leading audits, regulatory inspections, and enterprise-wide initiatives and able to conduct them independently.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including executive-level reporting.
- Ability to develop and implement long-term EHS strategies and risk mitigation plans.
A successful candidate may also have:
- Bachelors degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field.
- OSHA 30-hour certification preferred.
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certification
