Summary:

The grinder performs grinding of /OD surfaces of metal objects. This job description indicates the general nature and level of the work that is expected. It is not designed to contain a comprehensive or all-inclusive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities. Other duties may be required.

Main responsibilities:

• Grinding faces and diameters holding tolerances of between.
  0005"-.00005." Ability to inspect faces and diameters using micrometers, gages and amps.
• Load work pieces into grinding machines, then perform specific grinding operations.
• Finish surfaces of work pieces, using prescribed equipment, grinding wheels and hand tools.
• Inspect and measure work pieces to ensure that surfaces and dimensions meet specifications.
• Monitor machine operations to determine whether adjustments are necessary; stop machines when problems occur.
• Select and mount grinding wheels on machines, according to specifications, using hand tools and applying knowledge of abrasives and grinding procedures.
• Set up and operate grinding or polishing machines to grind metal parts, tools, or work pieces.
• Study blueprints or layouts of metal work pieces to determine grinding procedures, and to plan machine setups and operational sequences.

Our ideal candidate:

• High school diploma or equivalent, with vocational training or 3+ years of grinder experience.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, including knowledge of machine and tool design, use, repair, and maintenance.
• Skilled in operating and monitoring equipment, with the ability to read gauges/dials and catch issues before they become problems.
• Solid troubleshooting ability — can determine root causes of operating errors and take corrective action.
