Position Summary:

The Shift Administrator functions in a management position 24 hours/ 7 days per week as a supervisor for staff and patient care as well as administrative support and resource person for a designated shift. The primary responsibility is to Department of Nursing Operations to support Hospital Operations during assigned shifts. They coordinate placement of all patients from the admit process and all transfers from unit to unit on all units throughout the hospital.

What the Shift Administrator will need:

Education:

  • Registered Nurse
  • BS/BSN preferred

Licensure:

  • State of Michigan licensure

Training and

Experience:

  • Previous proven experience and expertise in clinical area.
  • Previous proven experience and experience in management, either first line or shift supervision work.
  • Computer experienced required.

Job Knowledge:

  • ACLS and BLS certified

What the Shift Administrator will do:

  • Functions as a role model demonstrating competency in clinical judgement, select technical skills, and appropriate knowledge base.
  • Demonstrates clinical expertise in the executions of the nursing process and directs staff to outcomes
  • Assesses and coordinates Nursing Department resources for present and subsequent shifts to meet budgeted staffing.
  • Uses an analytic process to identify problems and implements systems to reach a solution independently and in collaboration with the Manager/Assistant Unit Manager/Resource Nurse.
  • Demonstrates awareness of Hospital and Department policies, assures compliance with, and uses these for the basis for decision making for clinical and management decisions.
